    Hi all,

i now owned a samsung x60 and i find that the battery life is not as good as stated. Just to check with you whether does anyone use the Tekkeon MyPowerAll external battery and is it a good solution to a backup battery?

Understand that the warranty will void if any damaged to laptop due to 3rd party battery. But the problem lies with the unavailability of the battery from the local support.

Personally I'm not big on 3rd party batteries. I don't like the potential for issues just to save some money. Of course there are those who use them without troubles and it seems you don't have the option to get a Samsung battery in your area.

    Good luck.

Which version of the X60 do you have? Which CPU and GPU? Samsung's claimed battery life is likely to be for the minimum specification, such as the option with Intel integrated graphics.

There is, in theory, a 9-cell long-life battery available as an option, but this have not been seen in the UK.

I used to have an X60 with T2300 and X1400 which would, with a dim screen, give about 3 hours on the standard battery. Now I have the X60plus with T7200, X1700 and WSXGA+ display. This combination will struggle to reach 2.5 hours. The CPU and GPU seem to take more power even when doing very little, plus the display is brighter, even at the minimum setting. Part of the problem is that the X1700 is new and ATI haven't yet got PowerPlay working with it.

I have the 9-cell battery for my X60 ([email protected] / ATI X1600) and I am getting about 5 hours with dim screen (predicted time in win 5:45).
This battery is larger than the standard 6-cell and is protruding in the back.

I am using T2300 integrated graphic. I am trying to search for extra battery but to no avail. Been asking around for quite some time and they mention that this has to be purchase thru Samsung. I always feel that in order to win the market, the company should make their accessories easier to purchase. Just like Dell and IBM, which is why they have a bigger share of laptop market, Very disappointed with the service over here. (Singapore)
I can't possible use the laptop with dim screen all the time with my battery on and that will definitely deteriorate the battery in long run. That is why i am asking for another alternative.

May i know where did you purchase your 9 cell battery? Is it thru Samsung local support in your area? Singapore don't have such service.

I got the 9-cell battery here in Germany together with my X60 through www.studentbook.de for additional 200 euro. Unfortunatelly they only ship within EU.

I think the reason they make the batteries a direct-purchase item is because Li-Ion batteries begin to age as soon as they are made. If they had to stock resellers or service centers around the world, there would be a lot of unsold stock that would go worthless on their own. Through direct-purchase, they can control their own stock levels somewhat and minimize losses.

Dell has a larger worldwide customer base, and so has more flexibility in its distribution options with more service centers scattered around the globe.

Running the notebook with the screen on a low brightness level will not cause your battery to deteriorate faster. There are methods to prolong the overall lifespan of your battery, which are covered in the battery guide. I suggest you read through it there.
