    Hello-

I have looked around at different sites, some based in Germany and others in Asia. I want to buy a Samsung X50 with the WSXGA+ screen, SATA capability, and an X700. I have seen some in Germany (X50 WVM2130) and in China (X50-T000). They are the same laptop, just in different countries. The Chinese version is around $2,700US, but the German version comes out to be $4300US!!! I was wondering if anyone out there would be willing to work out a deal to ship me a X50 or post one on eBay or something. Please Please Please!!!! :hardfind: :hardfind: :hardfind: :hardfind:

lol, it seems like you've been searching for alternatives to the Z70va.. the only US place I've seen that imports it is dynamism.com.. not sure if that's the x700 model or the x600 model they're selling.. but quite honestly, I think you should probably consider another notebook. I like samsung models, but I don't feel justified in paying that much for it.

I was just talking to a guy from Malaysia and he is in the process of checking the local prices on the X50-T000 (the one with X700). I think I found it at one retailer where the price was right around $2500 US. That would be awesome if I could work out a deal somehow.

I dunno man.. do you really want to spend that much money? controversey aside, I think the Asus Z70va should meet your needs at a cheaper price.. but you seem to really value weight?

I am not sure either. I just ran across a thread involving the MSI-1029 with a Turion and an x700, but unfortunately the screen is only WXGA. I think it would be perfect for me (its actually lighter than the z70va), plus it is 64 bit and would run Vista really well when it comes out. Oh well, decisions, decsions!!!

haha i hear you, so many choices.. I'm surprised you considered the MSI, you didn't seem to like it initially.

almost every glossy widescreen out there will be just wxga. while alot of the matte ones go up to wsxga and wuxga

but hey, I'll tell you which models I like since I'm at it :)

15.4 models: Asus Z70va (nice build, sexy looks, powerful processor, although personally i might settle for just the Z70v due to battery life needs).. MSI 1029 simply because its the only Turion + x700 that's affordable (Acer has one but its expensive).. it has a glossy screen but at lower res. MSI is as reputable as Asus when it comes to mother boards, and so far, many MSI reviews have been positive.. and finally the Uniwill 259EA.. so far it's the only other 15.4' notebook that uses SATA drives (the other being the Z71v). the Uniwill also uses the Nvidia MXM chip (upgradeable) 6600.. with 256 dedicated!.. its pretty thin too... but alas its wxga but glossy.

but if weight is a big factor for you.. you may want to move down to a 14' widescreen..

    at the moment
Asus W3V, 5.5lbs (with optical drive) and ATi x600, 64 dedicated, but hypermemory can use system memory to add to that..
Chembook 2030 (Compal EFL30), is 5 lbs, uses Nvidia 6400, 64 dedicated but can use more from the system like w3v..

if you wait a lil longer, Acer has an Aspire and Travelmate that uses the x700 with 64mb dedicated.. I don't know when it'll be out.. better ask the guys in the acer thread.

    runninkyle17,
see my post about the better prices for x50 in Germany and Switzerland in another thread devoted to x50.
Don't know if it is useful for you if you've got opportunity to get it from Asia.

Just wait until late next year or the following year (that's 2007)

The deal between Samsung and Dell is off now and Samsung will not provide any more of laptops in OEM config any longer. Therefore the non-compete deal between Dell and Samsung is finished now.

Or You should find someone in Korea to do this for you. It's actually little cheaper. I just got my Q30 red for wife this way. I've asked my co-worker in korea to ship it to me via 3 day international for around $150.00

The laptop itself was around $2000.00

Isn't that a deal?? I'm happy with the Red Q30 and so is my wife.

Do you know if your co worker could find the price on the top of the line X50 over there. Just to see what the price would be and the shipping. Thank you for the post.

I can certainly ask. It's always cheaper to visit in person rather than dealing over the internet. I will take some time though.

You can get it around $2300.00 + S/H

Also all of the new Samsung notebooks carry global warranty so it shouldn't be a problem. There are huge service facilities in TX and CA, and they will come to pick up the notebook if there's any problem.

I've researched before buying the Q30 in case. I can't send the notebook all the way to Korea to get it fixed you know..

I can help you getting to a x50, but you must tell me how to handle it. I'm also registered at ebay ...

Everyone thank you for your help, but alas, I have abandoned my search for a cheap x50. I have decided on the Acer Ferrari 4005WMLi. I know, I know, you are shocked and dismayed, but I plan on using my new laptop for at least four years and the Ferrari is exactly what I have been looking for except that it weighs more than six pounds, but I will just have to bulk up a bit. Thank you again everyone for helping me find the ever alusive X50. Take it easy. :acer: :acer: :amd64-2:

I hope for you it will work four years long. At our school we made some really awful experiences with Acer notebooks (when they are out of warranty). But the service of Acer is quite good (at least in Europe).
A AMD64 is quite a cool thing. I couldn't decide for a long time wheter I should take a Centrino-based or a AMD64-based notebook. The first time I saw Samsung notebooks it was clear what I want ... :p

I have had a Acer Travelmate 800LCi for about two years and I have had a very good experience with it. You are correct that Acer service is very good. With my Ferrari I will be purchasing a 3 year warranty on it since it is such a high end system. Samsung is such a great computer, I just really need an AMD Turion processor so that I know my laptop will not become completely useless in four years. Thanks for all the help everyone.
