Hey, I'm going off to uni and am in the market for a new laptop. I have narrowed it down to either the Asus A8Jc or the Samsung X11 which seem to have very similar specs and are the exact same price where I live(Hong Kong). I am leaning towards the Asus because of the 2 year warranty, even though the X11 has a slight edge over the A8Jc in specs. The built in camera on the Asus is another factor that draws me to it.

I was just wondering if you guys would have any reason why the Samsung would be better than the Asus?

Specs for the Asus can be found here: http://www.asus.com.tw/products4.aspx?modelmenu=2&model=1066&l1=5&l2=26&l3=270

I think you would better off with the Asus A8J, I think it look hotter. Plus, would you get the same VGA on the Samsung?

Given that the A8 series is down-market from the Asus W3 series and is relatively thick, I am surprised by the relatively low weight. Last year I bought an Asus W3A and was disappointed to discover that the headline weight of 2kg assumed no optical drive and a small battery. The true weight was 2.5kg. In other respects it was (and still is) a good notebook. On the other hand, when I bought my Samsung X60 a few months ago, I found the weight was almost the same as that advertised.

I would therefore recommend getting a second opinion about the weight of the A8, if weight is an important consideration. If low weight is not an issue, then the A8 provides better value.

One other difference to consider is that Asus has moved to the Express Card slots while Samsung still uses the PCMCIA slot.

What does this mean in the X60 spec sheet:
"PC CardBus Slots PCMCIA 1 Type II slot (Express card slot ready for later)"

Is there something that will make my current X60 suddenly Express Card ready?

Having an express card slot is good right? Since it's newer? Or is it not as supported at the moment?
