I've just bought the samsung x06. Its a 14" and its 2.5cm high and its 2kg and it has 512ram and 1.73Ghz. (I'm going to buy another 1G ram as I intend this to be the last notebook i buy for a long long time)

It wasn't too expensive though I spent all week aprehnesively deliberating over it and eventually I took the plunge and now I'm waiting for it to be delivered.

My concern is this - I thought it was going to be a high(ish) spec machine but then I only researched it after I bought it and after reading your posts about the GMA 900 graphics card I am worried. Very worried. It seems that this is a pretty budget card from what I could tell of you posts. :budget:

Is this the case? Is it actually a rubbish card or is it more a case of techno pedantiscm where you are making light of 2.467% difference in card performance? (I don't mind if you lie - actually, if the card is a lemon - then definitely lie. I will be very deflated if this machine has any attributes that leave me thinking its anything other than the pinnacle of man's acheivement here on earth)

If you don't game, you don't need a hot 3-D graphics engine.

For that matter, if all you do is surf the web, just about any machine built since 2000 or so will do. (Note: even if you have DSL or cable, the bottleneck will still be your internet connection).

So relax, and enjoy your new computer.

This card is not for gaming....period. But it should perform flawlessly in just about anything else. This card will not hamper your abilities to do things such as play DVDs, music, surf the web, type documents, etc. Its just gaming where this card will drop dead.

hey write a review if you can, it'd be interesting to see what people think of it's keyboard layout. the GMA 900 is an integrated video card, meaning..it's the bottom you can get for the current line of notebooks. Not that it's the worst thing either.. i was able to get older games like GTA: Vice city at nice rates on the older Intel Extreme Graphics 2. GMA 900 should be superior

I'm not really a gamer but it would be nice to have the option as I didn't intend to get another notebook anytime soon.

What difference would adding a gig of ram make so that it has 1.5GB to the performance of the graphics card?

    Will definitely write a review.

does that mean that adding 512MB would be virtually as effective as adding 1GB?

Unless you use some really memory intensive apps, a total of 1 GB is probably enough.

The thing about memory--more than enough does you no good. Less than enough can cause a dramatic slowdown.
