I think this is worth putting as a temporary sticky.

Samsung UK currently has a VAT cashback promotion for many of its notebooks. The lst of qualifying products is here.

So, for those who are undecided whether or not to wait for the Ivy Bridge refresh, this promotion may swing the balance in favour of buy now.

    ****Update****

The offer validity period has been extended to 6th June.

I had already pointed that out in another thread.

There's also the NP700G7C-S01UK on the list. That is expected to have the i7 3610QM on board.

It remains to be seen whether the IB models are available before the promotion finishes. I have to wonder whether the list was prepared by someone in the marketing dept from everything on their current list without appreciation of the Ivy Bridge issue.

NP700Z5A-S05UK ordered from Amazon at 10.30 pm on March 27th, guaranteed delivery for March 29th missed, laptop eventually delivered March 30th.

VAT cashback qualifying period - 00.01 March 28th onwards.

After struggling with the graphics drivers (Easy Update still trying to persuade me to downgrade to 8.930), with a failed BIOS update now I find that I miss a 20% refund by 90 minutes.

If that space bar so much as thinks of missing a beat I'm throwing the whole thing out of the window.

I was sceptical about this whole promo, but i decided to go ahead and buy a samsung laptop, because it turn out to be the cheaper option if i get the VAT back. And today I got an email confirming that my claim has been validated.
So, that made me feel better...

How many days did it take to get the validation email?

I submitted my claim on 7th April and got a confirmation email straight away but I haven't heard about validation yet.

Also just clarified with Samsung that the product must be purchased and delivered within the promotional period in order to qualify. So there's no chance the NP900X4C will benefit from this offer.

There has been a further update to the offer which now closes on 6th June:
The list includes several Ivy Bridge machines (anything with a "C" at the end of the model number) which will be good news if they show up in time.

The money has just arrived. Strangely, it's £199.83 but I won't make a fuss.

    John

PS: I rechecked the receipt an the cost was £1199, not 1199.95, so the £199.83 is correct.

£1199.95 - £199.83 = £1000.12. The deal included a 3 year warranty and a free Microsoft Arc mouse (a good idea but too big for my hands). Amazon UK is now selling them significantly cheaper but without the extras.

Hello folks. So my dads insurance company is the one replacing my laptop in sig as it died theough water damage. I'm going to ask for a NP550P5C-S03UK which should qualify for this deal. Do you know of it is possible for them to make use of this deal, which would save me paying an upgrade fee, as they are buying it directly?

The terms and conditions refer to the end user customer. If you buy the notebook then you can claim back the VAT. If they buy it then they cannot. So you should propose that you buy it and they pay you the amount before VAT, whle you can reclaim the VAT from Samsung.

They went for cash settlement in the end so I'm getting the NP550P5C-S03UK directly. With this deal it's just £600! Amazing! Thanks Samsung :)

Cross-posting as suggested from one of the other threads... with regards to VAT on laptops, all retailers qualify

    Qualifying retailers:
    Notebooks: All retailers
Display: Amazon, Argos, Comet, Currys/PC World, Harvey Norman, John Lewis, Micro Anvika, Overclockers, Richer Sounds, Shasonic
    Print: All retailers
    SSD: All retailers excluding Pixmania

    https://samsungvatback.com/uk/en/terms

(Samsung getting one back on Pixmania - good for them! Or... maybe just cos they're French... i.e. different VAT..)
