Samsung Settings and Windows 10

Hello all.

I have a Samsung NP300E5A-S03ES. It has Windows 7 and the bloatware called Easy Settings, which is crucial for everything that is not changing the volume.

I read that the new version, Samsung Settings, was better and it worked on W10. For a try, I installed an empty hard drive and set up Windows 10 (fresh install).

To my surprise, after every update was done, Settings is available only on the MS Store and "it's not compatible with my computer". So I cannot install it. Neither can I install the older Easy Settings, so things such as screen brightness cannot be controlled because the Fn keys do nothing.

I also installed Samsung Update, but it found nothing to install.

I don't know if it's because I'm using W10 in Spanish instead of English. But by being blocked at the MS Store level, there is no way of forcing it.

I have looked for options or solutions, but it seems like I'm the only person that has had this happen.

You definitely don't want to use Easy Settings, it's for Win7 only (and earlier). Make sure to thoroughly uninstall it before trying anything else. For Win8, 8.1 and 10 you want Samsung Settings.

I preferred an older version of Settings, v2.0.0.89, even after updating my Sammy to Win10. I since went back to Win8.1, not because of Samsung incompatibilities, but because Win10 infuriated me, increasingly so with each new version. But even on Win8.1 I still use Settings 2.0.0.89.

Check this post in the Easy/Settings thread for how to find it. You basically need to use Samsung Update's Find Model feature to locate Samsung model NP930X5J-S02US. The opening post in that thread ( here) has more details on that, including a link to Samsung Update (or its older version SW Update).

But somewhat obscurely, in order to find version 2.0.0.89 of Settings, you need to download the Win7 Easy Settings package for NP930X5J-S02US, and you'll find Settings 2.0.0.89 inside that Easy Settings ZIP file.

There may be later Settings versions that also work, and which are easier to find. But for older Samsung models, 2.0.0.89 has proven very reliable. And it's not that hard once you have Samsung Update installed.

Hello again. I have read the entire thread and followed the instructions, but Settings does not show up anymore on any of the models I test the Update utility with. Also, it seems like the thread had a download link for the Settings at a moment, but it's not there anymore.

I have been looking all around for a download of Samsung Settings, but it's such a generic name that I cannot find an exe file for it.

Is there perhaps a way to force it from the MS store?

OK. So I found a way to force download the Samsung Settings and install it: https://store.rg-adguard.net/
But, now it says it needs a driver (see pic).

Samsung Update only finds software for Windows 7 and 8 in this model.

This can become very frustrating.
