I opened the bottom of laptop up to replace the hard drive. When I closed it all back up and powered it on the display is not working. Does anyone have any ideas as to what I could have done to cause this issue?

Which model and you pulled what drive to place what drive in? Also the rest of the power up is fine or where does it stop, that is if it starts at all? your question is just too generic and needs many more specifics.............

Edit; a bad drive or plugin of the drive can cause the bios to fail post, did you try to boot sans all HDDs?

I agree: If the BIOS screen is not showing then there's either an electronic problem with the HDD or the cable which is stalling the boot process.

The model is NP700Z5C-S02UB. I pulled out the 1TB HDD to put in a samsung 128GB SSD. The display shows no indication of powering on. I have taken the hard drive out and tried booting up, but still nothing. Boot up seems to be doing something, because the DVD drive spins up, but not even a flicker on the display.

It seems like the BIOS can't enumerate the hardware. Try reseating the RAM and having no HDD / SSD connected.

Then try a CMOS reset by disconnecting the mains power, poking an unbent paperclip through the hole in the bottom to disconnect the battery and then hold down the power button for a minute. Then reconnect the mains power and try to start.
