Not sure if this has been answered yet. Does anyone know if the mini display port and the hdmi port can be used at the same time? I would like to have to external displays plus the laptop display going at the same time. Is this possible? I ordered a few cables from monoprice so I can not test this out until I get them in.

This question has been asked for the Z5A series too, but so far no one has really been able to confirm this functionality. Any owner wants to verify?

I guess once I get my cables in (hopefully by the end of the week). I can verify this and post the results. This would be a deal breaker for me as I use multiple monitors when at home for coding and so forth.

I'll look forward to your report. The ability to drive two monitors in addition to the laptop display is critical for me as well.

How easy is it to disassemble and put in extra ram and replace the optical drive with an SSD?

    Is there a pdf/tutorial ?

Is it worth increasing the ram from 8 to 12gb on this unit?

It is generally not worth it unless you really use more than 8GB of RAM at any one time.

Just buy a USB casing for the DVD drive if possible.

Let me first start off and say this laptop is amazing! Like other's have said, the hard drive is by far the limiting factor. I want to definitely replace the hard drive with either an Samsung 830 or Crucial M4 @ 256gb.

If I go the SSD route, what is the best use for the 1tb hard drive? My thinking is to get an external enclosure. I am confused on the most optimal route. Is USB 3.0 capable enclosures faster? Do I need to be looking for a specific SATA II or III?

You can put the 1TB in the optical bay using a caddy or put it in a USB3.0 SATA2 casing for external use. Depends on your needs.

Does anyone know if the optical drive is SATA II or III? Because I wanted to have both an SSD and HDD, I'd like to keep the SSD with the faster connection obviously and move the HDD to the SATA II. Unless they're both the same, in which case, it shouldn't matter.

I read that they are both sata III.

    Multiple display issue:

I received my cables to hook up via hdmi to dvi and mini displayport to dvi and I can not get the mini displayport to function. It will not even detect in the monitor settings. I have tried different monitors and two different cables (mini displayport to dvi and mini displayport to hdmi/dvi/displayport). I have also tried the latest nvidia drivers as well. I am trying to see if anyone else can confirm that their display port is working correctly. So as of right now for me, it looks like that having multiple monitors will not work until the mini displayport will work.

You need an active adapter for mDP as HP ENVY owners have found out.

It looks like even with an active adapter only two monitors are supported at a time. Having both the hdmi and mini displayport to displayport connected. I can only choose between one of the two displays at a time.

Does this laptop have only one slot for a hard drive? It would be nice to have an ssd in addition to the pre-installed 5400 1tb hard drive.

No, can not even disable the laptop screen. I can only have the laptop screen and one additional monitor.

The only way to have an additional hard drive is to remove the optical drive.

Samsung Easy Settings > Display > Screen Brightness > Deselect "Use auto brightness control" (that's where it is on my Series 9).

I need some help. I've got this on order, set to arrive today but I'm very concerned about the fact that installing my SSD will void the warranty. I just confirmed with Samsung that removing the casing will indeed void the warranty. So, my question is, will removing the casing leave any sure signs that I have done so? Are there any stickers or tabs that will show that I've opened it? It seems like Samsung wouldn't know unless I told them. Thanks for the help.

    Hi,

I saw in the review thread that the non-gaming version has a CMO008 screen. Does anyone know what the gamut of this screen is? If not this one, then manybe the gaming one?

    Thanks!

Anyone find the trackpad to be very annoying? I've described in detail in another post how the pointer freezes constantly because it's reading the thumb button finger as starting a gesture.

I always rest my thumb on the trackpad while using the pointer and the button area is defined very narrowly in the driver, so my (big?) thumb drifts off tiny button area and that causes an instant pointer freeze.

There is also a bug where the button area can become a gesture area for a few seconds, which causes freezes all over the place until an internal timer resets the functionality.

(I have all 1 finger gestures turned off, and only use 2 finger scroll, although this same pointer freeze happens with 2 finger scroll turned off)

There is a thread on the 15" trackpad and using some hidden utilities/ini files, which I'll be looking to see if it can help.

There is no "button area" the whole trackpad is movement sensitive.

And yes I have the same problem and I hate it. Wish it was possible to at least make the lower part where the keys is "non-movement-sensitive".

I got my series 7 today and was wondering if there was a way to make the keyboard stay lit up? IThe keyboard lights up when my room light is low or off, but when I try to turn them on when the room is bright it tells me "You can use the keyboard light only when the surroundings are dark." Thanks!

    Just ordered a NP700Z7C-S01US :)

I had been contemplating an SS9 but In the end, I decided the larger screen and FHD was more important than diminutive size (it's only slightly larger and heavier than the Dell E6500 I've been using for 4+ years.)

I'm planning on ordering a 256GB Samsung 830 SSD to replace the HDD, but I'm wondering if the 512Gb version provides any additional benefit (other than increased storage)? I'm also wondering if there would be much benefit to dropping in 8 GB of RAM - although this is primarily a work laptop and I do very little gaming.

Just got my NP700Z7C yesterday. Everything is great so far.

However, one thing that bothers me is the hard drive.. I'm having the hardest time coping with it.

I think I'm going to try to open it up and put in an SSD, but I just fear chipping the bottom cover or snapping off a corner when I'm prying it apart.

If I did get an SSD put in, would I be able to use the recovery disc that was included to reinstall Windows 7 and just use the product key on the bottom? Or would I need to download the whole OS separately?

Also, I've read about people using an optical drive caddy to relocate their 1TB HDD to. If I went that route, I would just be stuck with a faux optical drive slot on the side?

Or would a better option be putting in an SSD for the OS and using an external drive for games, music, etc.?

Yes you can run two external monitors at the same time without the laptop display enabled, I tried this tonight.

Here's what worked: (none of what worked would allow laptop screen to be on at the same time).
Running 2x24" samsung monitors at 1900x1200 (mini displayport needs to be using an active displayport cable)

    analog + displayport
    analog + hdmi
    displayport + hdmi

    What DIDN'T work:
Pretty much everything else...any combo I tried to use 3 monitors failed (laptop + hdmi + DP , laptop + analog + hdmi etc etc).

does any one know the difference between the np700z5a and the 5 c i know it,s a different graphics card but is it stillplauged with allthe early chronos errors , the tech men at my retailer offered me a replacement because of all the trouble, would it be folly to stick to Samsung, i cant even get the amd/atito deal with simple animation problems despite trying multiple drivers ,plus lot of other problems making this machine time intensive

I believe Z5A is Sandy Bridge CPU (2nd generation) whereas Z5C is Ivy Bridge (3rd generation). This alone should make it quite a bit faster. Add to that the faster graphics card.

Others may be able to elaborate (or correct me).

If I was offered a replacement of my NP700Z3A with a NP700Z3C (not even out yet in USA) I would accept it ecstatically! But then, I think my Z3A is pretty nice already :)

Hey, I just got my Samsung 7! I love it! :D The only problem...wireless card...works okay. What is weird is I have to be anywhere within like 15 feet of my router, doesn't matter if its downstairs, upstairs, even outside...but once I go to the living room(which is maybe five feet away from where I have full bars) all of sudden wireless disconnects and it cant even find my network!

I heard there maybe is a driver update? how can I update or check for the updates?

    Thanks!

I had that issue on 3 different 700Z7Cs. To me it seems like a hardware issue.

Anyway, latest driver could be downloaded from intel: http://downloadcenter.intel.com/con...+Applications &OSFullname=Windows+7+(64-bit)*

Ah yeah noticed intel has split driver package into two pieces, one for bluetooth, and one for wifi.

    wifi: http://downloadcenter.intel.com/con...ions&keyword="Intel+Centrino+Advanced-N+6235"

But if you have broadcom network, this driver won't be for you. Thought all 700Z7C had intel wifi, but I could be wrong.

I have my 700Z5A set up to run three monitors in 2 different ways:
    HDMI,Mini VGA,USB2VGA
    HMDI,Mini VGA powering Maxtor DualHead2Go

Both have their pros and cons.

Just to confirm, the port on this new machine is still a mini VGA, right? The dongle to convert to VGA was sold separately in the US with the 15" models.
