Low performance overall so I decided to reformat with birthday image through Samsung Recovery Solution. It is running at 0.4 MB/sec. I'm wondering if this is the reason why the laptop is so slow. If so can it be possible there is a fault with the hard drive? I've received no errors and file corruptions so I think a slow hard drive is unusual.

Does Samsung Recovery Solution usually run at this pitiful speed?

    Thanks in advance.

What HDD access mode do you have set in the BIOS? However, abysmally slow HDD performance is often an indication that the drive itself is dying. Try running the Samsung BIOS level diagnostics. Alternatively, remove the HDD from the computer, put it in a 2.5" USB enclosure and connect to another computer.

    Thanks for your reply.

I can't find any BIOS setting for HDD access mode. It is connected to SATA and BIOS is set to default. What are the different types of HDD access modes anyway? I've never heard of this.

Also where can I find the BIOS level diagnostics?
