    I just noticed that Argos are selling the R505, which I hadn't heard of previously, for £399.

    This appears to be a special just for Argos and gives a dedicated (non-nVidia) GPU for under £400. I presume it is the R510 with a different board.

    There are some comments in another forum.

    I got this laptop a couple of days ago and it seems pretty nice. Not used it all that much yet, but all seems well except.....

    I am having a problem with the screen dimming automatically after 1 minute of inactivity when on battery power. My daughter was on youtube earlier, and this was the first time I had noticed it. Very annoying. This is my first experience of Vista so I'm guessing its something to do with the OS rather than the laptop itself. I've been searching for a solution without success.
    Would anyone have any knowledge of this 'feature'?

    Ta,
    John.

    This is the Samsung Battery Manager at work. More here. There should be an icon in the system tray.

    Thanks a lot for your reply.

    By pointing me in the right direction I've been able to sort it, but I don't think I've really done it the way I should have. By simply renaming;
    C:\Program Files\Samsung\EBM\EasyBatteryMgr3_hold.exe it is no longer loaded and the screen doesn't dim. I'm concerned though that this might have knock-on effects.

    I still can't believe how dumb this default behavour is, if it was after 10 or 15 minutes it would be just mildly annoying, but 1 minute!

    Anyway, thanks again for your help, its appreciated.

    John.

    Hello all. I got this laptop from Argos, and although it does come with Vista and driver CD's, i can't find any driver updates or other information for this model on the Samsung web site . Anyone have links to the latest driver updates online?

    Here's the R505 downloads. There is also an R505E.

    You need to search for NP-R505. The NP- prefix is for the international versions of the Samsung notebooks. NT- indicates Korean versions.

    How is this laptop? Is there somebody who bought it, I would like to see some benchmarks and would like to know the battery lifetime :)
