Hi all,
I have see no reviews of Samsung R40-T2050 Cosate review, not even anything in Samsung's own website!
Why is this, is it because the model is very new?
Can anybody please found a review for me? I also want to know if Samsung generally gives good screen, durability or not.
Thank you!

Samsung notebooks generally are known for good screens. I would say the durability doesn't differ much from brand to brand.
I don't know where you are from, but it is possible that this model is to be sold in Europe or even in Germany only (probably). Samsung.de (Germany) lists the model http://notebook.samsung.de/article.asp?artid=9D422D34-8433-47F7-B92C-6C5EC22C6AF6 -
Hi, thanks for the reply, I am in Germany.
I mentioned screen because I read several threads here saying Samsung's screen is made by other manufaturer and its not the best.
About durability, I do not wanna change my laptop soon, not in 4-5 years atleast,(I am happy with olden technology).
Other comments welcome and still I did not get any review of the model! -
The R40 look like a middle-class notebook. I recommend a high end notebook if you are going to use you notebook for 4 to 5 years because mostly the build is better (and you have more power ;-))

Hi Tom, since you are following the thread, let me first thank you.
Now, as you have said R40 is a middle class laptop, but I can only afford middle class, so the question would be this, is this one of the durable ones amongst the middle class laptops?
Or should I go for a somewhat evenly priced Toshiba or Sony?

If you want it to last for 5 years, simply buy a notebook with a 5 year warranty. I personally still have an IBM T23 which is at least 5 years old running in my kitchen as a storage for recipes.

well 5 years was too much, but I want a laptop which wont give me sleepless nights in first 2 years so that I wont have to think of the warranty.
Is samsung such a brand, that was the question.
Also my main purpose is decodin and recodin DVDs and Divx files. So I want a good DVd burner integrated, how is Samsung's DVD burner normally, who manufactures them?
Any clue? -

I think a key factor in notebook/laptop life expectancy is how much they are carried around. A computer which is opened and closed several times a day, cables plugged and unplugged, moved around in a bag, etc., has a much more physically demanding life than one which lives on a table and is opened and closed, turned on and off, once a day. Plus there is the general usage factor of how many hours per day.
I've had intermittent connection-related problems which appear when I am travelling but stop when I get home and the computer doesn't get moved.
So what tends to die? In my experience: Hinges, cracking plastics (almost anywhere), display backlights (usually the inverter), keyboards, fans, hard disks, and the internal connector problems which can be difficult to diagnose but can often be fixed by dismantling and rebuilding the computer.
So far, my X60 (now approaching 8 months hard use) shows wear on the left touchpad button which also doesn't click as it used to and, at one stage a couple of keys didn't click properly but that problem disappeared.
