I was fiddling with the harddrive part of my 6 months old samsung q45 because I was contemplating an upgrade from my 80gb. However, I think I inadvertently broke my sata cable by bending it back too much (see posted pictures). I won't have a multimetre until tomorrow (when my dad gets home from work), so I'm not sure for certain. Maybe someone can tell from the pictures? They should really design these things better so that it's less fragile.

My real question is the Samsung service parts in U.S. I saw/bought my q45 in hong kong and bought it because no one has a samsung in the U.S. and I wanted to be unique. I think I screwed myself by thinking this way because there may not be a service parts number. I saw from a similar thread ( http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=132091&page=2) about the almost the same part. Can anyone point me to the right direction? Thanks. I love my q45 and I don't want to part with it. I also would be computerless and that's kinda crazy because my major is CS.

Any help/pointers in the right direction is much appreciated. Happy Christmas and Happy Early New Years to all.

I agree that the ribbon cable could well be a standard part shared with some other notebooks.

I suggest that you post the photo of the cable in the hardware forum and see if anyone recognises it. If you get no feedback then you could contact one of the companies listed here.

That page shows the Samsung agents for service and spares in UK:

Three companies are listed: Digicare, Arise and Romtronics.

    hello,

finally, i found some details about this problem, im kinda glad i wasn't the only one.

My 8 month q45 stopped reading my hard drive a few months go, so i opened the lid, then for some reason it worked. so i shrugged my shoulders and popped the lid back on and continued.

4 months later, the same thing kept happening, it suddenly won't work unless i kept the lid off, which more or less made it desk bound. Then it played up again just this week.

I though it was the hard drive i tried figure out how to take off the SATA cable, i gues i bent the cable too far or something, so even if i left the lid off, it still won't read my hard drive, so im in the same situation.

Just sent off a email to digicare, to see if i can just get the sata cable to my hard drive, i don't want to send off my laptop for warranty, i need the data on my hard drive.

just that one problem i can't figue out is how the frigging hell you take it offthe motherboard?

the balck tab that wasi n the first photo, i cant seem to figure it out.

i tried plying it with a small slothead, but a bit of plastic flew off, so i stopped.

if i can't get the cable off, then i guess i'll have to send it in for warranty.

but not before i get my data/wipe my hard drive.
