Anybody else experienced problems with the optic drive not recognising discs (cd/dvd/etc.) and if so anybody got a fix?

Tried phoning samsung UK but the wait time is ridiculous, using the web request form just doesnt get replied to and all i want to do is know whats wrong?

Can the drive read the files on a disc? If so, the source of the problem is most like the autorun settings in Windows. Do you have an Autorun / Autoplay icon in Control Panel?

If the drive can't read the files on the disc then it has a problem. Try cleaning the lens, preferably with an air blower / fine brush as used for camera lenses.

I have the same problem on mine... I can't seem to read DVD-Rs, but I haven't tried normal DVDs.

Also install for any optical drive firmware updates. If it is a Samsung optical drive then you can check here.

really unimpressed with this notebook - got a replacement drive fitted and it's doing the same thing, only reads a subset of dvds.

my cheaper toshiba reads them all

    beware samsung.

    just seeing now this topic.
I have the same problem, can't read any kinda of media (Cd/dvd, rw/w, original/burnt and so on) with any OS.
Asked for replacement (still in warranty) but they want me to send back the whole laptop :(

so i am going for an upgrade to a hd caddy so to have plenty of storage space!

i have the same problem - allthough it does read CD but not DVD. I believe there are different lasers for CD vs DVD functions so I assumed it was that the laser for DVD was gone.. (happened to me in other laptops)..

OVerall my Q320 has gone back for repair once due to fault drive - the service was fantastic. IT's also been dropped on hard floors a few times and isn't worse for wear.. other than it broke a keypad hinge and I can't get a replacement key anywhere...
