    Hi

I was upgrading the memory in my Samsung Q210 and when removing the keyboard, the blue tab of the blue ribbon became detached from the keyboard connector! How can I fix this, I have no idea how it was attached in the first place.

As well as these, the 3 keyboard 'latches' which i pushed in to remove the keyboard won't come back out again. Any ideas?

    Help much appreciated ASAP!

    Thanks

    Tom

I expect that the blue tab is glued to the cable. Perhaps a small drop of superglue? I have not had the problem of disappearing latches. Perhaps you pushed them in to far. Are you able to go fishing with the smallest of screwdrivers? Alternatively try putting some adhesive tape on the exposed part of the latch and then pulling. Finally (and most risky) is temporarily fixing something to the latch with a small drop of superglue, then pulling that once glue glue is dried.

Thanks for the advice! Will follow Re: the latches.

With the keyboard connector I'm not really sure what to glue to where - to me it just looks like a blue strip of plastic and the connector is just a piece of plastic, there isn't an 'obvious' place to attach the blue strip to - i don't know where abouts it was attached to in the first place.

You can open the black connector. Usually the top part is on pivots at the end and you can lift it with a small screwdriver. You should have done this before pulling out the ribbon cable.

I think the blue tab is only to help hold the end of the ribbon cable. You can also use fingers or tweezers to hold it when you push the end of the cable into the open black connector. Then push down the top part of the connector to clamp the end of the cable into position.

The keyboard clips do eventually snap back into place, press down firmly, and John Ratsey has already advised you on the connector.

I now just need new trackpad buttons ;)

Thanks for the replies so far, I've been away for the weekend so haven't had a chance to do much yet. I think I may have explained myself badly to begin with.

Firstly, by the 'blue tab' I mean the end of the data cable, and I now understand what to do with it but my problem is:

I need to know whether I am missing a part - I currently have a single piece of black plastic like so:

which I presume I should never have been detached from the connector, shown here:

The piece of black plastic is still intact, no snaps so it looks like it should re-attach but I can't for the life of me figure out how...any ideas? Am I missing a part? I sure hope not.

Well after an hour of trying the black piece of plastic snapped :( but I'm pretty sure there was no way it was going to re-attatch. Now I need some other solution - have tried sellotape but it's not exerting enough force downwards for the data cable to make a good connection.

You have got yourself a problem and, at the moment, I cannot think of a fix. How much space is there between the connector and the bottom of the keyboard?

Edit: Fixed! Thanks all for your advice. After searching the forum with my new problem I realised it would be possible to wedge some sort of piece of plastic in between the pins and the ribbon, and after another hour of trying out different thicknesses of plastic I managed to find some! All now appears to be working fine!

Thanks all once again. I'm so relieved I use my laptop for practically everything all day so I'm glad it's all fixed.

Hi, Mat, I would like to know how did you managed to repair this, same happened to me, and I've put pieces of paper, ETC, to hold the cable into place but I can't fix it, just some keys are working because the cable isn't being pushed well. Thanks!!
