I am not sure if I am posting this in the right section, but hopefully someone can give me their thoughts on this.
I saw a Q1 on eBay running Vista with 1gig RAM. Never have seen a Q1 in real life so no clue at all about performance, etc. A huge concern I have is how can you run Vista with 1 gig without a viciously slow machine. I am still trying to figure what category this device is in. Is it a giant PDA/Pocket PC, or is the smallest Netbook possible, or is it a link in evolution between PDA and Tablet or someting else.
Anyway, what I was thinking of is running outlook on it, if I ever get one, but still worries me to think of 1 gig for Vista.

    Any thoughts anyone?

The Q1 as called a UPMC and is a size or two smaller than a netbook which can be put into a large pocket. It is nearer in the smartphone category. If this is correct, then you can upgrade to 2GB RAM.

A 900MHz Celeron or a 1GHz VIA C7 CPU isn't going to any speed prizes but a 1GHz Pentium M would be getting closer to a 1.6GHz Atom. You can do some interpolation and extrapolation using the SuperPi and WPrime tables in my NC10 review (link in signature) which include resuts for a 1.6GHz Pentium M.

    John

PS: I see that some of the substance was edited out of my NC10 review submission so I attach the relevant tables.

    Thanks John
BTW: Do you think the Atom processor is pretty good in the Dell mini and others in the 10 inch category?

Do you have a budget? It can help us point you in the right direction.

Budget is limited to 300 - 400.00 so am looking used on eBay, however, if I decide to just get small laptop instead then around 1,000.00 If the laptop though it will be NewEgg or BB since I have an account with them.

The Atom CPU has reasonable speed provided you don't try multitasking.

Since this is the Samsung forum, I suggest you look at the NC10, N110 and N120 netbooks since these are among the best that are available. You might also want to check out the Q210 which is a 12.1" notebook.

I would recommend a Fujitsu U810 over the Samsung based on a friend that has one. The screen is good enough to read a pdf ebook in full screen mode. It's small enough to fit in a cargo pocket. I don't know if it'd run Vista simply because my friend couldn't figure out how to install it from the thumbdrive, but it ran XP nicely. The battery life is quite long too. I want to get one primarily so I can hold it like I'd hold a paperback book while reading my ebooks, but I need to get another tabletpc first.

Thanks for the input. What you mentioned about the Fujitsu running XP made me think of another question. I don't know how it would work if I entered data in Word for example in XP, then got home and wanted to sync the Word doc with my desktop which runs Vista.

Atom is capable of decoding most 1080P blueray rips.

Word is part of Office. It doesn't matter what OS is used. It makes no difference.

But be aware that Office 2007 has different file formats from office 2000 / 2003. You can download a patch called FileFormatConverter.exe while allows the older offices to read the new formats.

That still has nothing to do with the OS. That's all about what version of Office is used.

I'm not disagreeing with you on this.

However, some people may think that Office 2007 and Vista go together while Office 2003 belongs with XP. IIRC Outlook 2003 doesn't work properly with Vista.
