    Samsung NP350V5C-T01US Won't Turn On

    I have a Samsung laptop that will not power on.

    What happens:
    Connected by either AC adapter or battery, I press the power button and the blue, power light on the front of the laptop comes on for a few seconds and then turns off. There should be a blue light around the power button, but it doesn't come on. I cannot even get to the BIOS screen.

    Situation before:
    I was putting the laptop to sleep. Sometimes it goes into a mode where it doesn't happen. The fan goes full blast and the screen is off, but the laptop is still on. Normally, I pull the power, and the laptop will start back up like normal, but I need to "Start Windows Normally". This time, it won't even start up.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    (By the way, I bought it with Windows 8 but installed an SSD with Windows 7.)

    Bad RAM, or bad contacts on a RAM module, can cause this symptom. If there's a RAM error then the BIOS can't load. An electronic problem with the disk drive or its cable can have the same effect.

    Troubleshooting involves (i) removing the RAM then (ii) replacing each module (if there are two) in turn, seeing if the computer boots with either (and if it does then try both in case the problem was a bad connection; then (iii) with the RAM replaced try removing the disk drive.

    Or did you recently update the BIOS? Some recent updates have caused boot loops while I discovered that an update for my NP900X4C doesn't like 1.35V RAM.

    I haven't updated the BIOS recently.

    I don't think it's the RAM. I just tried all combinations (2 modules & 2 slots) and nothing changed. All of this was done with the SSD installed and not installed. Nothing changed.

    Thanks. You've done the basic troubleshooting.

    Is the battery removable or is there a battery disconnect hole in the bottom? If so, remove / disconnect then hold down the power button for a minute.

    Otherwise, it's back to Samsung but first put back the original HDD. Are you still in warranty?

    I've tried removing the battery too. Still not working.

    It's under warranty but putting back the original HDD will be tougher. I took out the DVD drive and put the HDD in a caddy in that spot. It's now a secondary hard drive.

    So did you try booting with neither the SSD nor the HDD connected?

    It's worth trying before you restore the hardware to the supplied condition.

    Then you'll have to bite the bullet and do the best you can to restore it to the supplied condition before sending for warranty repair.

    Experience of others suggests that provided you haven't caused the failure through damage then the service staff won't comment on whether you have been inside.
