I'm looking to get a netbook, and I am genuinly in a quandry about whether to get an NC10 now or wait for an NC20.

The Samsung NC10 is available now and the NC20 should be available in a few weeks.

    Samsung NC10: http://www.samsung.com/uk/consumer/...computers&subtype=nseries&model_cd=NC10RH/XEU

    Samsung NC20: http://www.slashgear.com/samsung-nc20-previewed-hd-capable-over-6hrs-runtime-2832314/

    Differences?

    NC10:
    Smaller 10" screen
    Poor 1024x600 resolution
    Intel Atom processor
    Awesome 7hr battery life
    Small unit

    NC20:
    Larger 12.1" screen
    great 1280x800 resolution
    Via Nano processor
Weak 3hr battery life with video etc use, 5hrs with minimal/basic use
    Larger than the NC10

Any comments appreciated! Like which one do you have? Which one do you recommend? Are you waiting for the NC20? If so, why etc...?

    Cheers :)

I voted NC-10 due to me having one... YES, it would be a plus to have a bigger screen res but nevertheless the battery life and looks make it a winner for me... On top of that, the new versions are shipping with mobile broadband so im regretting not waiting for that :(

actually the battery life on the NC20 doesn't fail because it can get over 6hrs even with a bigger higher resolution screen

Also its able to play HD content 720p 30% cpu usage and 1080p 80%

and its suppose to only cost 500 dollars USD

so I think it surpasses the NC10 in every way except for form factor I prefer 10 inch over 12.1 but I the higher resolution is a big plus

Hmmm, a recent review that I read said that the NC20 will give you 5 hours at 50% brightness and minimal usage. If you start using youtube or anything like that the figure drops to 3 hours, which of course, is a LOT less than the NC10.

I didn't know that it is better for HD content though? Is that down to the new via processor? (A processor that I read was rubbish?)

yah the old VIA was rubbish but the VIA Nano outperforms the Atom in every bench mark but has a higher TDP

Thanks for the info! Btw Is the resolution on the NC10 that bad when compared to the NC20?

I'm torn on whether to get an NC10 or wait for an NC20. Decisions decisions! :D

well i had a MSi Wind and I couldn't really stand 100x600 it was kinda annoying and some windows wouldn't fit in the screen but you get used to it. I much prefer 1280x800 much butter resolution also you can watch 720p movies on the screen.

If I were you I would wait till the NC20 comes out in Feb and see some reviews on it because right now theres isn't really any quality reviews. Its up to you if the NC10 fits all your needs and you need it now buy it. But with the NC20 coming so soon I would wait. I debating between the NC20 and the Sony Vaio P even though the P cost 400 dollars more =(

With much thinking and comparing with larger notebooks and even other netbooks, I really do like the size of the NC10 which is what I voted for. It is a unique netbook in that it has the illusion of looking like a full sized laptop (due to it's large keyboard?), but it is definitely smaller when compared side by side.

    • The VIA Nano is a 64-bit CPU, the Atom N270 in the NC10 is only capable of 32-bit instructions.
    • The VIA VX800 chipset supports 4GB of RAM, while the Intel 945 chipset only supports 2GB, but can it support 4GB on a single channel?
    • Atom has lower TDP than the Nano, but it is dragged down by the power hungry 945 chipset, to a point where it is not far from the Nano setup.

Arstechnica has a great article on the subject: http://arstechnica.com/hardware/reviews/2008/07/atom-nano-review.ars

The NC10 hasn't even been released here in Sweden yet, so I don't think we'll be seeing the NC20 until May. I'm concerned about the screen size and resolution of the NC10 and the battery life of the NC20. Can't have the cake and eat it too, I guess :D

NC10 is a true Netbook, very portable, long battery life and very good for its intended use.

NC20 is too close to Notebook size and battery life but without any of the performance of a small Notebook. If you like the idea of the bigger screen then something like the Dell XPS M1330 is 100% better than the NC20.

NC10 is most probably top dog in the Netbook line up. NC20 will be a bit of a miss fit, not really fitting into either category.

the very best thing about the nc10 is the battery life. I have my NC10 only for a couple of days, have read all the reviews, and still am so impressed with it. I can take it to the uni, use it in the metro and in idle times in the lab (of which I have many), and after leaving home at 8am and coming home at 8pm, I still have battery left! wifi is always on, I use max brightness, and the cpu has to work ;) - awesome. of course I voted NC10 :p

I totallly agree with Planetse. The NC10 is the king of all netbook. It's up to you if you want a netbook or a cheap notebook.

I can see you may fall for NC20 due to its screen size but other than that, NC10 is very well balanced in every aspects (battery life, weight, performance, portability).

I use a Dv4 at home and take the NC10 everywhere else without the need of the charger.

If this is your first notebook, NC20 seems to fit you with its big screen (note* most ppl including me get a netbook as a secondary laptop).

Otherwise, you could get the NC10 along with a 20" LCD to hook it up at home through VGA. That way you get the huge screen estate when working on your desk and portability on the road. (LCD are so cheap these days).

I tried hooking up my NC10 with my 47" HDTV and it works flawlessly. No performance issue at all.

NC20 all the way looks better, has a better resolution, and Similarly priced you cant lose with an NC20 im thinking about one myself but i really want a dedicated/Good integrated GPU so i dont know if its for me.
