Hi I have been using a tv as an external monitor with my notebook screen off for some time but the last time I switched back to the notebook screen the tv went blank but the monitor did not start up.
I have done it many times before by right clicking on the desktop and selecting the notebook display from the graphics option. Now I have no way of knowing whats happening. I have tried rebooting it with and without a monitor attached and FN F4. But still Nothing!
I am sure there must be a simple solution!
Really appreciate some help.

If you are getting nothing on either the notebook's display or the monitor in spite of repeated pressing of Fn+F4 (not just F4) then something serious has died. I think each press of Fn-F4 steps around a loop: Internal, external, both (and maybe neither).
If you can get a picture onto the external monitor but not the internal screen then I wonder if the screen cable has died. Unfortunately, the only way to check is to replace the cable.

Try disconnecting the power from your netbook then remove the battery and then hold the power button down for 20 seconds, and then try your netbook.

Thanks John it's not looking good. I had a reply from Samsung tech support with much the same. Do you know if I got another nc10 I could simply swap the hard drives?

Thanks had tried taking the battery out but not holding the power button. Tried it but still no go. It's not looking good.

I also expect that that it would be possible to do the same with a newer Samsung netbook such as the N150 although that will probably require booting Windows into safe mode and uninstalling devices so they can be re-detected with the right drivers.
You can also put the HDD into a USB enclosure connected to another computer so you can access your files.

I've been pretty impressed with the nc10 so I might get another one and then I have both options open. Thanks.
