More Updates:
I have tried flashing the original extracted .CAP ROM file and AFUDOS flashes correctly the file but when I touch/modify it (I think) it breaks Samsung's "signature" and throws 0x18 error, as I have mentioned before.
I have tried patching a .CAP file that I converted from an edited .ROM file with a patching tool named "UEFIPatch" ( Here the source) but AFUDOS keeps giving me 0x18 error.
I will try downgrading but I don't have any .CAP file for my Ativ Book 4 (NP470R5E). If someone has that .CAP and shares it, I will really apreciate it.

Thanks (again) for sharing your experience and advice in the unbricking thread!
Regarding the inability to flash the modified BIOS, I wonder if SecureBoot settings might affect it. You probably already disabled SecureBoot, otherwise I'd suggest you try. What if you temporarily switch to CSM mode, might that make the BIOS more open to flashing? -

Hi,
I want to share my success with repairing the f2/f4 boot loop.
My laptop is a NP530u3c and as I changed the bios setting to "no fastboot" und "CMS only" the bios became no longer accessible by pressing F2 . The well known bootloop happened.
I was with my laptop at the samsung customer center and they told me, that windows damaged the bios (but I can't imagine how) and the hard-disk needs to be formatted and It costs about 100 to repair it. I went home to save the data from the HD by using an external USB housing before I bring it back to samsung.
But then I found this thread and started to experiment. I spent now nearly a full day, but I mastered it.
This are the steps leading me to successfully recover the bios (without the need of the current bios-file)
1.) Create a bootable usb-stick with rufus (rufus-1.4.12.exe) and gandalfs iso (Gandalf's Win8PE_x64.ISO) with partition type: MBR for BIOS or UEFI computers.
2.) Boot with it, this should work.
3.) Copy __SAMSUNG_Update directory, which I created as described in one of the articles above, to a second USB-Stick and stick it into the laptop.
4.) cd into the directory and execute the following: "SFlash64.exe /cvar /patch", after a while the computer reboots
That's it. F2 brings you back to the bios,
hope it helps

I just wanted to thank author of this thread for giving the way to get back to the older BIOS. Also I wanted to tell everybody interested, that I managed to downgrade BIOS on my Samsung NP350V5C-907PL laptop. Because in this laptop case __Samsung_Update folder in Temp doesn't appear, I did it this way:
1. I found a file with bios update on Samsung site in way it is written in first post in this thread. Than I executed it.
2. I went to Temp and I found in one of last modified folders file with bios update (called BIOSEC.ROM).
3. I copied it to save place and I left the Samsung update application.
4. I downloaded AfuWin64 program ( https://www.wimsbios.com/amiflasher.jsp), I run it and opened with it previosly extracted BIOSREC.ROM.
5. Than I went to Setup page and I configured it as on the attached picture.
6. I clicked Flash and that's it! The rest is exactly the same as for other models.
It worked for me, but I don't take any responsibility for this method.

Hi guys. Forry for my poor english. I've got a problem flashing bios to bricked np700z5c-s03uk. I'm using willem programmer but cannot flash .CAP file into eprom. Is there any known way to extract .rom or .bin file out of .CAP? Method mentioned on the begening of this thread gives me flash error.

See if this thread includes the solution to your problem. The work done there enhanced our knowledge considerably.

At this moment I'm not able to boot from any usb device. Samsung logo appears and then black screen. Tried with batteries connected and disconnected, and on charger. Still no luck. With hdd connected its trying to boot windows but stops on bsod, acpi bios error. I think eprom Programmer is the only way to unbrick it.

That hurdle, too, is discussed in the thread linked by John.

So, I have a Samsung NP700Z7c - S01us with Windows 8.1 upgraded from W7 installed and I have been having some issues with getting devices to run at proper USB 3.0 speeds. So I am nearly considering flashing a NP700Z7C - S01ub BIOS which should be the same computer as far as I know, except that it comes stock with Windows 8.1 installed except for one thinG. The S01US BIOS is 3MB, but the S01UB BIOS is 6mb..!
Any thoughts? -
John Ratsey Moderately inquisitive Super Moderator
My first thought is to update the firmware for the USB 3.0. It's probably Renesas (maybe one of these -you will have to do some research) but I recall that I had some USB 3.0 issues on my Series 9 of similar vintage to the Z7C that were fixed by the firmware update.
Samsung had bundled a firmware update in with one of the earlier USB 3.0 driver updates but then omitted to issue any further updates when they were released.
John -
It's an Intel USB 3.0 chipset. Their support website doesn't feature any updated firmware for their own USB 3.0 controllers and suggests to update the BIOS - though I can't really see how they are related. I do wonder if the Samsung BIOS flasher has any checks in place to confirm if the BIOS has flashed correctly.
I don't think I will do it though. I already tried rolling back to the older bios version P02AAE from P06AAE and that didn't work out very well... While I was able to enter the BIOS and confirm that the correct BIOS version was flashed, the computer would freeze on the Windows logo booting up. I put in an older hard drive which luckily resumed successfully from hibernate back into Windows 8.1 where I flashed P05AAE which is the latest linked version listed in the document on the first page of this thread. The Samsung automatic BIOS updater program detected the wrong BIOS when tried to use it to update from P02AAE which is quite worrying (BIOS corruption of some sort?) which is the reason why I had to manually download P05AAE.
Anyway, as rolling back the BIOS was not successful for me, I suppose that crossflashing from AAE to ABP would be... probably a bad idea. -
John Ratsey Moderately inquisitive Super Moderator
The Intel USB controller might be managed via the chipset software. Are you using the latest chipset driver?
I would be extremely wary of cross-flashing the BIOS. Samsung introduced the AB series with the Windows 8 versions of notebooks because they found that they couldn't update the AA series to give the required UEFI support (one reason running Windows 8 on the Windows 7 Samsung notebooks has more than its fair share of problems as you are discovering).
John -
If the older BIOS caused that many problems (assuming it flashed successfully) I wonder if there is something else wrong. You already tried a new clean install of Win8.1, right?
I seem to recall there were some hardware differences between the xxUS and the xxUB models. But mostly I would expect the biggest difference between the AAE and ABP BIOS families to be that the latter has a full-blown UEFI and SecureBoot implementation (with the bricking risks carried by that) while the former has only the simple UEFI Boot toggle.
As I mentioned elsewhere, I had some intermittent USB3 disconnects on my older Sandy Bridge NP700Z3A, which went away on Win8.1. I later switched back to my Win8 installation for lower latencies, but that's another story -
Thanks for your suggestions. I was using the Intel chipset driver that Samsung has supplied via SW Update, but the Intel USB 3.0 driver doesn't install unless I manually select it in Device Manager. Same with the latest Intel chipset drivers.
If there are hardware differences between the S01US and S01UB, I imagine that the size difference of the BIOS and also the hardware differences would be too large to make the BIOS compatible. I really don't think they would let so much free space in the BIOS stay unused (that 3MB vs 6MB filesize). I think it is highly unlikely that I will try to force flash the ABP BIOS.
I did notice that if I plug in my Logitech wireless mouse into the USB 2.0 port near the front on the right side of the computer that there is a higher chance of getting USB 3.0 speeds on the USB 3.0 ports.
Still a bit fiddly for now but it's usable. I have AS SSD benchmark on hand so I can do a quick speed test if I'll be moving any large files.
Thanks again. -
hi all a have Samsung 900x4c -a01ru
I need bios file, but my notebook is down and I cant download bios file
can you download bios file and share it?
thank you -
But you need to know which BIOS "family" your laptop uses -- the so-called Platform ID. On most models (though not all) it is the last three letters of the BIOS version. I believe Win7 versions of the NP900X4C (ie models that came with Win7 originally) use the AAC family, while Win8.x versions use the ABK family. But please wait for another owner of these models to confirm.
Once you have the correct BIOS Platform ID, you insert it in the following link to find out the latest version update available from Samsung and its exact filename.
Code:http://sbuservice.samsungmobile.com/BUWebServiceProc.asmx/GetContents?platformID=AAC&PartNumber=AAAA
http://sbuservice.samsungmobile.com/BUWebServiceProc.asmx/GetContents?platformID=AAC&PartNumber=AAAA
For ABK family (Win8 models) it gives the following link, which shows the latest BIOS update file as ITEM_20131114_21268_WIN_P10ABK.exe:
http://sbuservice.samsungmobile.com/BUWebServiceProc.asmx/GetContents?platformID=ABK&PartNumber=AAAA
Once you have the filename of the BIOS update you want, insert it in the link below to download that file:
Code:http://sbuservice.samsungmobile.com/upload/BIOSUpdateItem/ITEM_20131127_21276_WIN_P07AAC.exe
http://sbuservice.samsungmobile.com/upload/BIOSUpdateItem/ITEM_20131127_21276_WIN_P07AAC.exe
And to download the latest ABK BIOS, use the link below:
http://sbuservice.samsungmobile.com/upload/BIOSUpdateItem/ITEM_20131114_21268_WIN_P10ABK.exe
All of this is described in @isosunrise's guide in the opening post, but many members keep asking and seem to have trouble doing it. His guide also explains how to extract the contents of the BIOS update file.
@pps2003: In your case getting the BIOS file and extracting its contents is merely the first step in reviving the dead laptop.
Un-bricking
The extracted flash utility (SFlash64/32 or WinFlash or afuwinx64) can be used with the steps in this post to clear NVRAM on units that are not completely dead and which can still be made to boot Windows or WinPE. That post is in our main un-bricking thread, linked below:
http://forum.notebookreview.com/threads/samsung-series-7-np700z5c-s03ca-my-last-hope.762595/
The extracted ROM file itself (or CAP file for some BIOS versions) can be used with an (E)EPROM burner to re-flash a BIOS chip in cases of complete bricking. There are a few examples of that described earlier in this thread. There is also one in the main un-bricking thread (starting here).
Finally, a (very) few members have been able to use the ROM/CAP file for an Emergency Flash, which can be used on units that are not completely dead, but which cannot be made to boot anything. Member @urkopineda describes that here (in the main un-bricking thread) and here (in this thread). It's a great approach if you can get it working, but so far @urkopineda is the only confirmed success I have seen in the Samsung forum.
Rolling back to earlier BIOS versions
For those "merely" looking to roll back to an early BIOS on an otherwise working unit, the utility posted by member @osfrolov in this post will let you search for all BIOS versions in a date range with a given Platform ID (BIOS family). Use that with the the steps given by @isosunrise in the opening post of this thread to force flashing of the earlier version.
Since BIOS rollback (rather than un-bricking) is the actual topic of this thread, there is much more discussion about it in other posts here.John Ratsey likes this. -

Thanks. The directory listing confirms that the files are where they are expected to be.
Perhaps something is blocking afuwinx64 from either reading the BIOS or loading the ROM file. Make sure you are running cmd As Administrator and also disable your anti-virus.
I can't find any help for afuwinx64 that explains the switches. You can try running afuwinx64 /h to see if that gives some simple help. You can also try running just afuwinx64 without any switches and see if it works as shown here.

Unfortunately the files get removed immediately. So you need to temporarily remove all 'Delete' permissions on this folder (you may have to take ownership first). -
-
This means that the files have been there quickly.
On that folder right-click -> properties -> security tab -> advanced-> disable inheritance -> convert inherited permissions -> select your user -> edit -> show advanced permissions -> untick 'delete' & 'delete subfolders and files' -> OK -> OK -> OK.
Now run the BIOS update again (as Admin!). You should now find the files you want. -

Hi, guys
I have a Samsung laptop model: RF511-SD3BR (made in Brazil)
I need to update BIOS to version 15HX or 16HX, because 17HX has a bug.
But the Samsung website there is only 17HX version, which is the latest.
My current version is 14HX - never updated. (date 10-20-2011)
The manufacturer is AMI and the model I think it aptio 4.
Where to download those versions?
Thanks a lot. -
John Ratsey Moderately inquisitive Super Moderator
Somewhere in this thread (maybe 2 - 3 years ago) is a simple program that someone wrote to iteratively search the BIOS database for a previous BIOS. You have to indicate a date range and an item number range, then leave it running and hope for the best.
John -
OK, I'll search, thanks.
But how to update BIOS by .exe?
and where is the change log?
Thanks a lot. -
John Ratsey Moderately inquisitive Super Moderator
Samsung never publish BIOS change logs, even internally.
The BIOS update files are released as executables. The update procedure is described in the first post of this thread.
John -
OK, thanks a lot

@mrtnspaul,
@isosunrise summarized it all in the opening post of this thread (post #1).
Using the cached BIOSItemList which he posted there, I was able to locate ITEM_20120313_426_WIN_15HX.exe and ITEM_20121112_755_20121024_755_WIN_16HX.exe. You then insert one of these into the download URL given by isusunrise.
I found that the download path for 16HX caused a 404 error (in Korean) but the 15HX path works fine. So here is a download link for 15HX:
http://sbuservice.samsungmobile.com/upload/BIOSUpdateItem/ITEM_20120313_426_WIN_15HX.exe
After downloading this EXE file, you then need to extract its contents (using the trick described by isosunrise) and run the updater with the correct parameters to force flashing an older BIOS over your current 17HX (again, using the parameters given by isosunrise).
Yours being an AMD model, I don't know which BIOS update utility it uses. Hopefully it's one of the two described by isosunrise. Otherwise keep reading in this thread as there are discussions of alternatives.ALLurGroceries, klobesvaldo and John Ratsey like this. -
I guys
I have the Samsung NP530U4E-S02CL (adquired in 2013) with bios model P08ACM. I need rollback to one previous version, because after update no longer hibernate, suspend or reiniciate properly (technical service not helped).
The link http://sbuservice.samsungmobile.com/BUWebServiceProc.asmx/BIOSItemList does not work and in the file posted in the forum ( Google Cache Jan 31 2013) there are only P01ACM and P02ACM versions. I think one more recent version could work fine, but i couldn't find it. Help me please! -
I see what you are saying, that the latest ACM update in the cached list is ITEM_20130118_949_WIN_P02ACM.exe.
You can try using the utility shared by member @osfrolov in this post. You enter a range of dates, range of update ID numbers (949 in the case of ITEM_20130118_949_WIN_P02ACM) and the BIOS version you are looking for (P02ACM if you were looking for that). It then scans Samsung's database for BIOS updates within that date range and ID range, looking for that specific BIOS update version.
Problem is it takes a long time to scan if you use very broad ranges of ID number and dates, so you want to guess at a more narrow range.
Using the link below to locate the latest BIOS update for the ACM platform ID (as posted by @isosunrise in the OP) I see that your current P08ACM update is ID 21341 dated 2014-03-25 (ITEM_20140325_21341_WIN_P08ACM.exe).
http://sbuservice.samsungmobile.com/BUWebServiceProc.asmx/GetContents?platformID=ACM&PartNumber=AAAA
So using the search utility, you can go backwards from that ID number and that date when searching for version P07ACM.
According to member @codebeard's post here ID numbers jumped 10000 between 2013-07-26 and 2013-08-01, and another 10000 between 2013-09-26 and 2013-10-01. So if your searches span those dates, you would have to use an unrealistically large ID range.
With all that in mind, I began the search you can see below: From 2013-10-02 (when ID numbers jumped to 20000+) to 2014-03-01 (a few weeks before your current P08ACM) searching ID numbers 20949 (949=the latest previous known P02ACM +20000) to 21340 (just before your current P08ACM) and searching for BIOS version P07ACM.
That search is still running and will take many hours. In fact, I cannot even promise that I'll keep running it till completion. You can try yourself for other ranges, using the methodology described above.
If we find P07ACM, the utility will give you the full URL to download the BIOS update. It will be like the link given by isosunrise in the OP with the ITEM_ filename inserted, such as the link below for P08ACM:
http://sbuservice.samsungmobile.com/upload/BIOSUpdateItem/ITEM_20140325_21341_WIN_P08ACM.exe
I'll update this post if I my search is successful. Please post anything you find as well.
Update:
Unfortunately the BIOS Finder completed (after some 8 hours) without finding P07ACM. I let it run through 2014-3-25 (the date P08ACM was posted) and still nothing. Either that means it was posted before 2013-10-2 (the start date of my search) or its ID number is outside the range I was searching (20949-21340). I suggest you search earlier dates, keeping in mind the jumps in ID numbers I described above.
I may give this another shot later, but I don't have any time on weekdays, so no promises.Last edited: Feb 29, 2016ALLurGroceries and carlosaguirre like this. -
