    Here is what I've tried:

Disable signature enforcement on driver updates.
    Disable early antimalware protection.

Neither have worked. I am out of ideas.

I have contacted samsung support multiple times. I am finally here with a SOLUTION for probably ALL people on a Samsung laptop. A tech gave me the file attached below to update my bios.

    MINI GUIDE:
    1. Download attached file
    2. Run the BIOS Updater
    3. Click download, DO NOT CLICK UPDATE
    4. You will get a (bios file number).exe file
    5. Follow guide in OP

Yes. But instead of having to use the link users can now use the official Samsung BIOS updater tool and obtain a copy of their BIOSVER.EXE, so that they can run this guide. I believe my problem stemmed from an unsigned BIOS, which is why it could never flash. Downloading them via this tool and following your guide did the trick for me. Just posting it to help others.

The BIOS update program you have linked to is exactly the same program as I have linked to in the BIOS update thread. Samsung now try to run the BIOS update through SW Update where it is difficult to see what is happening and there is more opportunity for things to go wrong (as you discovered).

I did not find the BIOS Updater.EXE file in your OP in this thread. I do NOT mean to be a and hijack your thread by any means. I simply wanted to provide what worked for me to others that may be where I am. SW Update got me nowhere, as you know, and one Samsung tech representative gave me this EXE that allowed me to download the most current BIOS file and use this guide to flash it. As where downloading the previous BIOS version from the link in this thread (the google cache) would not allow me to flash it.

I apologize if I came off trying to hijack the thread, I just merely wanted to provide what helped me, to others. And I am a bit unsure of what you are trying to say. (I am, most sincerely, not trying to be a . So I hope I didn't come off that way)

I'm not trying to disagree, just to clarify. People may be hesitant about downloading the program from some file sharing website. The default text for links isn't that obvious but my post in the BIOS update thread contains:
. (I've put the relevant word in bold). I would add that the link doesn't go straight to the program but one has to select the Firmware page from the menu.

Has anyone had any luck with the .cap bio files? The oldest BIOS version for the 770z7s still don't have a .rom.

When I try to flash, it says Rollback flash is disabled in BIOS and wont do the flash, even if you tell it to skip the date time check.

    Hello all,
i've purchased a NP700Z7CH at a low price. The counter part is that the battery ( or charge circuit ) is dead.. The consequence is that the bios updater cannot be launched ( the 30% condition is not fill )
Other problem is that the nvidia GT650m isn't well recognise by Windows...all the install is OK, all the settings are OK, but games are using the internal HD4000. since i've heard that the P05AAE bios version could be the source of the bad recognition of the card, I want to downgrade the bios to a P04AAE.
i have all the files needed, but since I can not lauch the bios update, the Micom will remain the P05AAE one. is that fine ? or not ? a solution otherelse ? :)

    thanks in advance

    Hello Pilot, welcome to NBR.

I don't think you have to roll back to the previous BIOS in order to use the GT650m. But many games think they're using the HD4000, even though they are running on the Nvidia. The games only see the first GPU (being the HD4000) and list that in their menus, when they are actually running on the discrete GPU.

You can try as described in this post if HWiNFO shows you whether the Nvidia kicks in. The screenshots are from my PC which has AMD, but the principle is the same.

Beyond that, I think you're more likely to get answers in the Owners Lounge thread for your model:

Hi guys, I am not very tech minded and need to get this machine back to a stable bios it was using before sw update took it to what is on it now.
    BIOS Version P08AAB
    Micom Version P08AAB

Can anyone help me find a bios version to flash as I don't know what version was on it before and am worried I may scew it up.

    Thank you.

    Hy all,
I have a NP700 Z5C-S02UB.I was wondering if I'll do a BIOS downgrade the step that CPU starts throttling will be over 90°.I'm really annoyed because even with ThrottleStop there is no effect if I disable BD_PROC_HOT.

If the CPU is getting to over 90C then you need to clean out the cooling system and redo the thermal paste on the heat sink (remember that the thinner the layer then the more effective it is).

Hello guys, i have a Samsung Chronos 7 NP700Z5C-S02UB, i've installed Windows 8.1 Beta back when it was released, after that it entered in an infinited bootloop... i switched the partition table to MBR and i was able to install final 8.1, but the f2 or f10 keys didn't worked, and Samsung is saying that i have to pay 40$ for the Reflash, that's insane. the UEFI failed for a Windows installation, that's a lot of money, and the worst part i'm not in the US Anymore, i have to send it back and so on, i've tried the Bios Utility from Samsung hoping that it will reflash and make the UEFI worked again, but, a week before the issue i updated the bios to the lastest version, and now hoping to reflash it with the same app... Basically saying Nah! you have the latest version pay us the 40$, is there a way to reflash the bios... so that i can get the Bios to respond again, Your help will be appreciated, thanks in advance.

Intel added a feature to their CPUs that lets manufacturers offset the thermal throttling temperature. Let's say Intel sets the default thermal throttling temperature to 100C. A manufacturer can decide to use a 10C offset so instead of 100C, a laptop will start to thermal throttle at only 90C. This is set in the bios and once set, user software like ThrottleStop can not change this value. The only way to change the offset amount is with a modified bios.

    http://img843.imageshack.us/img843/29/v4ph.png

If you look at the above screen shot on the far right side of ThrottleStop 6.00, you will see where it says

    PROCHOT - 13

That indicates that the manufacturer decided to reduce the Intel specified thermal throttling temperature by 13C. Thanks Asus.

You can check to see if Samsung is using this method. If you are having problems with ThrottleStop, head over to the ThrottleStop Guide thread and I will try to help you out. Unfortunately, there is no easy way to disable some of the throttling methods that are being used.

So that shows a -15C offset! - Very conservative.

    BTW, it's -11C on my Samsung NP900X4C.

I suspect they just don't want very hot CPUs in a thin chassis. While the heat should get removed by the cooling system, some heat moves upwards to the keyboard. So, while the CPU may be safe at 95C, people will be complaining about hot keyboards.

Whilst the conversation is about CPU temps and thermal paste etc, I had a hot CPU from new on my 700Z

I redid the paste and it was still reaching 90 degrees, throttling and the fan was blowing high at modest CPU usage. I took the heatsink off again to investigate and with the idea to add a shim, but on closer inspection the heatsink was concave. I should have spotted first time I took it apart as the centre of the CPU wasn't making contact with the copper, but second time around with my thinner layer of quality paste I could see only the edges had been in contact.

I thought about putting it back together and sending off under warranty, but again the hassle. I decided to lap the heatsink surface to make it flat, copper is soft, (which is why it somehow became 'bent' in the first place), started off with course sandpaper (wrapped around a piece of flat metal), and gradually finished off with 2000 grade, polished to a flat shiny surface. Temp max is now around 75 degrees when running prime as a test, and in normal use the fan is unnoticeable.

Maybe there are more bent heatsinks out there?

Carefully examine the cooling system again to check it is working. Note the comment about the bent heatsink.

Propping up the back of the computer or putting it on a fan-assisted cooling pad will both improve the airflow but I would agree that Samsung should have designed the cooling system to let the CPU run at full speed without throttling. BTW, I had slightly throttling on my X4C with i7 CPU. Then someone suggested I repasted the CPU and that brought the temperature down a few degrees.

    Very interesting....

It could have become bent when the fixing screws were tightened if there was a big dollop of paste on the CPU which didn't squeeze out around the edges.

When I redo the paste I first put on a thin layer on the CPU, push down the heat sink in the correct position then slightly move it around to help spread the paste. I then lift it up again to check the paste is spread on both surfaced. After than I put the heat sink back on, move it around a bit more while pushing down and then tighten the screws.

The bios after the 8,1 Beta installation, stop responding, you press f2 or f4 and the bios do nothing, for that reason, i need to reflash the bios, or downgrade and update again.

    Hello Chyaddo
I have some problems with my Samsung Series 7 NP700Z5B-W01UB my BIOS doesn't recognize the SATA1 SDD that I have now (Sometimes it recognizes but that's not always the case). I've read that downgrading the bios can fix this, if it doesn't then I have a bad mainboard. Could you please send me a link to a past Bios, the one I have is 15FD (I'm having problems downloading the older BIOS)

    thanks and greetings from Peru

Thanks John, for your suggestion, but it didn't work. I took my laptop to a repair technician and the sata cable is the culprit. The tech will try to repair it, and now I'm trying to find one in the internet to buy it so I can replace it later (if you know some website with Samsung parts it will help me a lot)

Look through the stock at Samsungparts.com. If you find the part you want you can then use the part number to search for other sources.

    Hey guys,

I need some quick help. I have problems with booting in SecureBoot/UEFI mode with my laptop (NP770Z7E-S01NL) since I use 8.1 I can only boot in CSM mode.

So I wanted to try a bios reinstall. I have the P03ABZ bios on my laptop at the moment.... this is what happens when I try to install :

Win 8.1 should definitely support UEFI and SecureBoot. If you upgraded from win8 on the original HDD, and it now runs in CSM mode, the entire disk would have been wiped in the process. But it is true that during installation from a DVD or USB, you will have to disable SecureBoot and change "OS Mode Selection" to "UEFI and CSM OS". You can change that back after completed installation.

That said, I strongly recommend you avoid Win 8.1 until Samsung has released drivers and officially supports it. Check our Win 8.1 sticky thread linked below:

    SFlash64.exe /n /exit /file P09ABH.cap (and all the possible alternatives, including /sforce)

Any ideas how to fix this?

There seems to be a bug in the latest BIOS update. Here's an instance of P09ABK bricking an NP900X4D. I would assume that the various P**AB* BIOSes have a common foundation.

You can see if any of the suggestions in the Win 8.1 Upgrade thread or the bricking thread get you out of the loop. Otherwise give it to Samsung to fix. I think they know they have made a mess of the 8.1 upgrade.

Oh my goodness, I can finally take a deep breath!!!!! I have searched high and low and talked to every service rep for almost a year regarding all things mentions in these 15 pages! This is the FIRST time I have come across any topics regarding my issues and I couldn't even tell you how I got here tonight! I have the NP700z5b, first of all the original HD died within the first 4 months of me owning it, I'm not a gamer or anything close, I do lots of research and marketing. Second HD was slower then anything I've ever seen considering how "fast" this machine is supposed to be....I installed the Seagate SSHD 1Tb.

( Fast Laptop SSHD: Thin HDD 1TB Hybrid SSD | Seagate)

It has never really preformed properly, and I thought I bought a piece of BEEEEP laptop.... I read thru as much as my add would allow, my main issues right now are:
**I can NOT get into the BIOS at start-up no matter what I tried...
**Laptop does NOT restart when I hit the "restart" button, it just shuts down....
    **and finally its SLOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If anyone has had any luck fixing let me know! Much appreciated!

    ~Michelline~

P.S. I ran a benchmarking software similar to PCMark or whatever you call it and my read writes were soooomessed up....at least I think they were!

Unfortunatelly that guide doesn't flash .cap BIOS.

My 700Z3C came from service with everything from factory, include BIOS P04ABJ and Windows 8 (most recent BIOS is P07ABJ).

Because I want to use my SSD with Windows 8.1, I just installed P07ABJ BIOS, made a bootable factory image backup on my 32GB Transcend USB stick and then replace HDD drive with SSD drive.
Before I replaced HDD drive, I checked boot options on BIOS and everything is ok (I had, at least, 6 options, some of them empty).

Then, after replace the HDD drive, I can't do anything! I have no option to boot on BIOS, the list is just empty!! What the hell is that???
I put back my HDD and only one option appear on devices boot list: Windows Boot Manager.

I want to restore my factory image on USB stick to my SSD drive!! How can I do that??
I think if I rollback BIOS I can choose boot options like before, but how can I install a .cap BIOS?

oh my god, I've never had so many problems with a PC to handle a simply HDD change.

    Thank you all.

@fearbrain: As John was getting at, make sure to disable SecureBoot in BIOS and set OS Mode Selection=UEFI & CSM OS. Also, make sure to disable Fast Boot / Fast BIOS. After saving and rebooting with these settings, you should be allowed to boot the USB, either by pressing F10 on boot (to temporarily select a boot device) or by changing Boot Priority in BIOS.

You can change these BIOS settings back after you have Windows up and running on the new drive.

After flashing a BIOS update, I always suggest restoring BIOS settings to default values (using the BIOS command for that) then afterward specifically set the options you need. In particular to set the SecureBoot/UEFI settings to match your disk and Windows installation type.

This was always good practice, for as long upgradeable BIOS' have existed. But it has become more relevant now, since a wrong UEFI setting can completely prevent the machine from booting, or the BIOS from even seeing the disk.

    Thank you for your replies.
Yes, Fast boot disabled, UEFI & CSM OS mode selected and already tried CMOS reset.

Take a look on this 2 pictures:
    - BIOS1
    - BIOS2

Already tried to flash P00ABJ BIOS, which is .rom format, but winflash fails.

My USB stick is just useless... I only can use F4 option ONLY with HDD as main disk.

Now, I'm cloning HDD to SSD. I hope it works.
Did you have any suggestion about the best software to do that?
I'm using Paragon Hard Disk Manager Suite 14.

Btw, if I install SSD on optical drive caddy, will HDD recovery install the system on SSD?
    Hmm... let's try this.

Ok, I copied the factory image from recovery directly to SSD. It's working good!

I resized HDD c: drive to the minimum (60GB) allows by restore option on recovery, and now I have 850GB on d:. I'll use that partition to storage and disable c: drive letter on my SSD windows.

Now, I only need to wait a new BIOS version, maybe the device boot list get back again.

    Thank you all.
