    Hello

I bought the above Samsung Chronos 6weeks ago and apart from this glitch it is perfect .

Every 6-7 days the screen goes blank , the keyboard backlight remains on and the laptop becomes unresponsive for about 20mins.

Pressing the power button doesnt work , i usually press it 2-3 times in a slight panic , the power light remains on.

It then seems to "power" back into life and begans booting up sometimes saying "reconfiguring windows". No Data is ever lost.

This happened last Night again , for once Windows 8 was slow and laggy on signing in and then it took longer than usual to signoff and shut down..then "Blank Screen" occurred.

It always makes me panic when it happens.

    Any Causes/fixes/Guidance would be great.

    Thank You.

This is unusual. Look in Windows Event Viewer > System Log to see what was happening around the time of the last glitch.

    Hello John thanks for replying

The Events Log shows Critical : Event 41 , Kernel Power , at the time of the glitches .

Not sure how to proceed , any advice please ?

Does the problem resemble the description here.

My initial thought is that it is some sort of system crash that is causing an incomplete shutdown. Two ideas:

    1. Is something overheating? Use HWiNFO > Sensors to look at the temperatures. It might be useful to get it to log the temperatures into a file. That way you can look afterwards in the file to see the temperatures immediately preceding the crash.
    2. How long are you holding the power button down to try to get the computer out of the coma? You may need to hold the button down for 15 seconds or so to get the computer to turn off.

    Thanks again John.

I notice you are from the UK so will know of John Lewis. The Laptop has 3 years parts and labour guarantee.

Would you advise I go to John Lewis with the Microsoft printed page and say "I think this keeps happening" ?

Or do I contact Samsung with the above question ?

Also , If I get a replacement from JL im guessing there is no guarantee it wont happen again. Is Win8 still prone to problems ?

    Thanks.

What would I do? (My NP900X3B came from JL with the same extended warranty). Did you register the computer purchase with Samsung? If so, I would try them first. If not, then phone up the JL customer service and see what they recommend.

It would, however, be helpful if you first do some temperature logging. Whether or not that shows up some suspicious behaviour it usually helps get their serious attention if you have done some basic troubleshooting. Samsung will probably ask you to reinstall the factory image (so back up all your user data first) then press F4 at the BIOS screen. JL may ask for the same. While this step is a nuisance for the user, it fixes a lot of problems and, if it doesn't then it points to a hardware problem. If you have already tried the reinstallation and it doesn't fix the problem then you can move to the next step in the process).
