    Hi,

I have a Samsung Chronos 700Z4A-SD1 with a HDD and I bought a SSD to replace my DVD drive.

After formatting/installing Windows 10 into the SSD, the laptop just wouldn't boot into Windows. It repeatedly restarts itself right after showing the "Samsung" logo screen. It did not even manage to show the Windows 10 loading screen at all.

Am I forgetting any settings to do before the format?

    Thanks!

    (i) Did you first make sure that the BIOS is up to date? (not the cause of your problem but a sensible precaution).

(ii) I wonder if Windows 10 put the boot files on the ExpressCache SSD, which isn't bootable. This is a known problem. See here and the linked information on how to fix it.

    (i) Hm, actually I don't. Maybe a noob question, or perhaps laziness on my part, but do you know where can I find the updated BIOS?

(ii) I was looking into those posts, but gotta kinda confused, because the first post teaches how to install Windows on HDD, not SSD. But I believe the second post is exactly what I need. Can you confirm?

    Thanks, John!

    1. Get Samsung's BIOSupdate.exe using the link in the first post in this thread. Run that program and it will check for a newer BIOS. Samsung did make several updates to improve compatibility with newer versions of Windows.

    2. As far as Windows installation is concerned there is no difference between an HDD and an SSD.

Regarding the issue of Windows Setup misplacing its boot files on models with ExpressCache, you can use the workarounds in either post #1 or #2 of this thread (I assume those were the posts you referred to).

The problem only occurs when installing from a USB flash drive, and the easiest solution is to simply install from a DVD instead.

However, I was under the impression that Win10 Setup doesn't make this mistake anymore, so I wonder if your problem is something else entirely.

    Please keep us posted.

    Hey guys!
I managed to solve my problem! It was what the tutorials said, Windows was placing my boot files at HDD after the SSD formatting/install. A little bit of diskpart did the job!

    Thanks for your help! =D
