Samsung ATIV Book 6 NP680Z5E-X02US Specs

Guys,

I'm really confused on the specs of this laptop. I bought it from MS store, item # listed above; and it is clearly listed on the box as well as on Specs - Laptops NP680Z5E | Samsung PCs that the laptop is equipped with AMD 8770M 1GB. But I ran gpu z, hwinfo and 3dmark 11 they all report that the card is 8750M with 2GB of RAM.
I also ran 3dmark 11 twice and the score is really low compared to reported score from review sites, around 1400 while other sites report score in the mid 2000.
I'm on windows 8.1. latest beta driver from amd.
I also have intel 330 ssd installed in my machine. Please give me some insights, as I bought this laptop several days ago and I wanna make sure that it performs correctly or else I'll have to return it.

Sometimes the hardware diagnostics programs can get confused by GPUs from the same family.

What GPU does the AMD Catylist Control Center report? It should get it correct. However, it would be advisable to put back the original HDD and run the checks there in case Windows 8.1 is adding to the confusion.

AMD catalyst driver only shows series as 8800/8700 and it doesn't say specifically what type of card I have. Although the reported RAM is correct on AMD catalyst. I put back stock HDD and setup the system, didn't install anything on it besides 3dmark and the score was much lower, around 500. 3dmark just couldn't detect the dedicated card at all.

 

Download and install the latest Futuremark SystemInfo. It might detect the hardware properly.

I wonder whether your benchmarks are being run on the Intel GPU because the graphics switching is not working properly (I can't help you regarding manually setting this). The integrated graphics on a quad core CPU is likely to be towards the upper end of the range of results listed here.

Yes, on the stock HDD when I tested it, the benchmark was indeed run on intel 4000. Thus, the score was ~500. It couldn't detect the AMD at all. But on my SSD, the test ran on AMD and the score was ~1400 as compared to ~2200 reports from many other websites that reviewed the unit. So I think either the driver is faulty or the card is not 8770m but a lower 8750m card.

 

There could be driver issues or there could be throttling due to either thermal or power supply constraints.

I have the same computer from the MS store. Got it on sale back in December. I am quite happy with it. I just checked my devices and also ran Belarc Advisor and I get what I expect.

AMD Radeon HD 8700M Series [Display adapter]
Intel(R) HD Graphics 4000 [Display adapter]
Generic PnP Monitor (15.3"vis, s/n -1)

I am now on 8.1 and have issues with the Samsung driver update for bluetooth and sound. They fail with a (-10). Sound still works but have not tried BT.
