Heya @all,
i am an owner of the (new) chronos 700Z7C-S04 notebook. This one is with internal 64GB mSATA + 750GB HD.
My problem is, that the idle cpu load is alway at about 15% (with no application is running). The OS is Win7 Pro.
Is this a problem of the BIOS or cause of Win7 instead of Win8 ? Is there any known solution for the constant cpu load?
Thanks a lot.
Cheers,
astragart

i tried to update the Bios with the Samsung Bios Updater. But there is no update for my device available. I have the latest one (xxxP03xxx).
I also tried to downgrade the Bios to P02 / P01 but without any success. -> The flash operation always failed. -

Doing a BIOS downgrade requires a special procedure as described in this thread.

I already saw this thread and tried this described procedure. But both Bios versions P01(*.rom) & P02(*.cab) are failing due the flash-process. Its not possible (for me) to downgrade the bios...

OK. Then you should get onto Samsung support. There seems to be a problem with the P03 BIOS (since someone else had the same issue). Perhaps no one told Samsung so they didn't produce a further update.

...or is the bios downgrade (with the flashing-tool) only possible with Windows 8 and NOT with Win7 ? With UEFI activated in the Bios?

The OP was running Windows 7 and most likely had UEFI disabled.
I would note that while the OP used WinFlash, someone else further down the thread reported better success with Afuwin. Give both a try.

Hi John,
thanks for your help.
Is it ok if i try to flash the Rom with Afuwin / Afuwin64 instead of WinFlash ? Can i really use both tools, because inside the "__Samsung_Update" folder there is WinFlash and not Afuwin. Only to be sure.
Thanks a lot. -

Update:
After several installations (Win7/Win8) i found the issue: Taaataa... its the DVD-Rom drive!!!. If a DVD is inserted... there is no CPU load in the idle, but if no DVD is inside... the CPU load is about 15%!
Is this a known error? I tried a bious downgrade also under WIndows 8. But without any success. Downgrade failed...always :-( -

Thanks man. Installed RST. Problem gone. Solved!

I seem to recall somebody else reported this positive effect of Rapid Storage in the NP700Z5E Lovers' thread.
That said I do recall (with only slightly greater certainty) that I posted my own comparison somewhere, of different SATA drivers for my old HP HDX18, including the Win7 built-in, the Intel Chipset driver, an HP provided driver and RST - and RST came out at or near the bottom.
I'll try and locate these when I get to a PC. My point is that RST is beneficial on some hardware and with some types of usage, but not all. I have it in my Sammy, but not my HP.
Update: It was member neographic who reported here how Rapid Storage fixed his problems with high idle CPU usage. And it turns out it was in my response to him here that I mentioned about my RST tests.
