    Hello there.
I just bought this model 2 weeks ago. In the first a few days i had no problem it was booting instantly. Then now it takes 5-7 minutes to be ready to use.
I had some other issues such as; firefox problems and graphics card issues. However i installed the new 8.940 ati drivers. That seems working fine for now.
I am suspecting about bios update which appears failed in Easy Software Manager. But i can not reinstall it ( there is no option to reinstall or remove)
To be honest my old laptop which had core i5 processor was much faster then this model. Programs are not running fast and i do not know what to do now ?

How about doing a system restore?

Did you install many application after that? If not, then there is some issue after installing BIOS. You could download the Bios Updater from Samsung support page and reinstall again. Never do those with Easy Software Manager. The worst is that you need to reinstall Windows again.

I didnt install many applications on it. I just installed the Photoshop CS6, Mass Effect 3. However the Windows made some updates and easy settings made bios update.but when i checked it from update history in Easy settings that it was signed as failed.

You may want to check for the Bios version. Then reupdate that Bios to the lastest to see if it is fixed or not. If not, then perharp you should reinstall the entire Windows. Even with EC, Windows will degrade over time and in those new laptops without SSD and bunch of bloatware, it could lead to that.

Thanks for the info. However i reinstalled the Windows 7 and done some updates. It works better than the last time, thus I'm still not impressed by the performance. I checked the bios version by the way shown below.

    BIOS Version/Date Phonenix Technologies Ltd. 11FD, 10/02/2012
    SMBIOS Version 2.6

I couldnt find any info which proves this is the latest update or not :/

You could use the Bios Updater from Samsung support page to check for newest version of bios. About the performance, how many % of EC cache has been used? If you do not satisfy with that, I recommend you to buy an SSD and replace the HDD with that. You would see the performance increases so much.

two weeks in and seems slow to me too!

-just NO snap that i was expecting but i am on 5000rpm oem HD
-suck from factory, programs (firefox + control panel) all take a hesitation

pull up CPU-Z and windows task manager: so been watching it and listening to the fan
-from factory it runs at 800mhz a lot! yuck -also the manual "quiet setting"
-tweaked the power and bios power saving on and off and now 2.8Ghz is typical.
-still playing around but it actually feels better without hyperthreading
-not sure if the Intel/AMD graphic chip switching has anything to do with it (not that i understand how that feature works...)

does anyone think their S7 (without a SSD or EC) snaps and is very responsive?

Note that the power management is designed to let the CPU amble along at 800MHz but it should speed up when there is any work to do. HWiNFO has a useful dynamic display of CPU speed.

The main likely cause of slow-down is HDD activity. If the RAM is nearly full then Windows will be using the paging file. The fix for this is to add more RAM.

Soluto will help to identify the causes of slow system boot.

DUDE, huge points for "HWiNFO"! with it it tells me the LCD model # under monitors: Samsung LTN156KT-068. and a quick check of "LTN156KT" on ebay show they are for sale! you might have just brought a busted up S7 back to life!

i really didn;t want to take my new laptop screen apart to find the LCD model # so thanks!

mother #@$%& i had a poor performing Hard drive on my refurb unit!
no wonder i thought this i7 wasn't very impressive...

upgraded to SSD hardc drive and 800Mhz snaps faster than oem HD at 2.2Ghz

so took out oem drive and used it as extra usb and it was noisy and clicky

pay for "refurb" get refurb )

You should check the HDD's SMART data for errors. If there are then you should be able to get a replacement under the HDD warranty.
