Man, I was hoping for a refresh on the series 7, that is why I keep putting off buying one.

Well holding off is paying off, right? The Series 5 and 9 kick the 7 series if you ask me.

That link gives the Series 5 Ultra models a 1600 x 900 display but the other reports suggest the run-of-the-mill 1366 x 768 resolution. The higher res displays would help the Samsung offerings to stand out from the crowd.

I don't expect an update to the Series 7 Chronos until the Ivybridge platform arrives (and Windows 8?). The current Series 7 Chronos models took a long time coming after they were announced (perhaps getting the graphics to work at all took longer than expected) so it would be premature to announce updated models.

The other feature of considerable interest with these new models is whether Samsung has properly fixed the WiFi.

You don't really think they would completely re-engineer the Series 9 and ship it with bad WIFI again, do you?

You never know I guess. Heck, the VP didn't even know which machine he had in his hand when he introduced the Series 9 at CES yesterday. It was a Series 5 in his hand.

Samsung's reluctance to publically acknowledge the Wifi problem would have me worried because, if the hardware people weren't told about it then they wouldn't give it attention. The Asian culture of not questioning the boss's orders makes it more difficult to give feedback about problems. However, it's possible that internally Samsung have accepted the issue and put it at the top of the list for the new model. We will have to wait to find out.

Wasn't the problem with the wifi the "duraluminum" case? So them changing it to an aluminum case would fix the problem correct?

I doubt it. Duralumin is a type of aluminium. Any conductive metal (aren't they all?) will tend to block wireless signals.

Absolutely not what so ever. The ultrabooks are much less powerful especially gpu wise.

Any idea if the 15 will include discrete GPU?

Unlikely. Managing the extra heat would be a challenge in the Series 9 thickness. Someone needs to invent the flexible heat pipe that can pass through the hinge to dissipate the heat using the metal display back.
