After a Windows 8.1 Pro RTM clean installation on my Series 9 NP900X4C A01IT ultrabook, SW Update no longer identifies the model to install drivers and software (it worked correctly with Windows 8 Pro RTM previous version).

Still waiting for a SW Update (and corresponding drivers) able to work with Windows 8.1 on my Series 9 NP900X4C A01IT ultrabook that I bought little more than a year ago (on August 2012). A real unexpected mess from Samung.

In addition I have a problem with energy saving settings of my Series 9 ultrabook. After a Windows 8.1 Pro clean installation, the "video brightness attenuation" timer setting disappeared (only see "video off" and "suspend mode" timer settings).

Are you using 8.1 drivers / software from one of the other Series 9 that is supported for 8.1 (eg NP900X4C-A02IT)? You can get them by using the Find Model function in SW Update.

However, you probably need the Win 8 touchpad driver until Samsung fix the one released for 8.1 and you will need to use the Win 8 version of settings (which might fix some of your power-related problems).

Samsung is quietly fixing some of the 8.1 issues but their support people have been brainwashed into thinking that it's all Microsoft's fault. There's a lot more discussion of the 8.1 upgrade issues in this thread.

    Dear John,
I installed drivers downloaded via last SW Update version using my model (NP900X4C A01IT, Windows 8). Installed only: chipset, MEI, IRST and Settings.

I'll try to see if Windows 8.1 appears in the downloading options of SW Update using A02IT model in place of A01IT.

    Many many thanks
    Andrea

    Dear John,
as you suggested, I downloaded Windows 8.1 software&drivers for my Series 9 NP900X4C A01IT using NP900X4C A02IT model via SW Update (manual model selection). Samsung Settings software wasn't available for Windows 8.1, so I downloaded the Windows 8 version for my specific A01IT model.

Installed: Chipset, MEI, IRST, Video drivers (all specific for Windows 8.1, A02IT model) and Settings (fWindows 8, A01IT model).

Until now it seems that everything in my Series 9 NP900X4C A01IT is working well. Wi-fi and bluetooth are ok with default Microsoft Windows 8.1 drivers. Fn keys are ok after Settings installation.

    Best regards
    Andrea
