Hi, i just bought Samsung R480 recently.

was quite happy with this laptop until i started chatting with it. I found that the spacebar, when i press it, even though the buttom sinked in, sometime the space doesnt come out until i actually apply more pressure.

Hence, wan to clarify with anyone owning this laptop, are you having this problem too? as in you press u spacebar softly til it sink in completely, does the space come out or does it only come out if u apply more pressure to it? Coz other button seems ok to me except the space bar.

Thank you guys for helping in advance!!

You may have something stuck underneath the space key cup... food or hair.

They are few ways to clean a keyboard. Mine is to clean it with an old tooth brush. Turning the laptop upside down while typing on the keys should help remove anyting stuck underneath them.

Some keyboard problems clear themselves with a bit of use. Firmly push down the space bar at various positions along its length and then give it a bit of exercise for a few hours and see if the problem fixes itself. If not, contact either the retailer or Samsung technical support to report the problem. They should then give you an RMA number which will enable you to return the computer and get a replacement.

I just bought the R480 i5 model with 14" lcd and I'm having the same problem with the spacebar not working properly. It works only 5% of the time the other 95% nada. Tried updating the software for synaptics pointing device and I still have the same problem. I've notice that they keyboard only works when pressing firmly on the center of the spacebar otherwise it doesn't work.

Looks like i'm going to send it in for refund or exchange.

About a month ago I made a post here about Samsung laptop (it's R530, not R480 though) that the spacebar wasn't working well. I exchanged the first one with another one of the same kind, and the spacebar was working all right until just a few days ago when the problem started again. I just have to press a bit harder to get it working (about 1 out of 10 times). I am a translator and a good keyboard is critical.
I am afraid I will have to return this one too.

I don't have the problem at all with the Samsung's keyboard and the spacebar wasn't any problem when I first got it. Has any one tried replacing the harddrive from the Samsung harddrive? I put in my black Scorpio from Western and it feels a bit slower then the 5400rpm Samsung drive =/ I check the score it rates it as 5.8 and Samsung one as 6.0 >_>

What is the model number of each of those HDDs? A high capacity 5400rpm HDD can beat a lower capacity older 7200rpm HDD on transfer rates although 7200rpm still gives slightly quicker access times.

I have the same space bar problem, you really have to hit it for it to work.
R480 best buy version. Did anyone find a resolution to this or send it in for service or anything?

    thanks.

    **Groovy update**
Popped off the spacebar carefully and just pressed it back on
and it is working much better. It only fails to register when I press
the very edges of the spacebar.
