    Hello. Newbie here.

    I've just bought a R20 and (in the 3 days I have had it!) am so far very happy with it.

    by far the most pointless piece if technology on it is the AV button next to the Power button that launches Samsung’s "AV Station Now", a piece of software that I find utterly pointless (can anyone tell me why you would use this over Windows Media Centre or iTunes???).

    Can this button be reassigned /remap to launch a useful programme? The button is there, so i might as well use it!

    Yes! I've only gone and worked out how to get that useless old AV button next to the on/off button to launch different programmes; and it's so easy!

    a big thank you to ipanema77 a for post a link to some microsoft gobbledegook about setting hot buttons, for which about 2 paragraphs were useful and the rest I didn't understand... http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=105250&page=48

    so here is how it is done:

    in the windows pop up menu search for "regedit" and open the Registry Editor. from the list of files on the side, choose the following folders:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE -> SYSTEM -> CURRENT CONTROL SET -> CONTROL -> MOBILE PC -> HOT START BUTTONS

    Under Hot Start Buttons there should be 5 folders, numbered 1-5. in each of them simply change the path listed to whatever application you want to open when the button is pressed. In my case it was iTunes. for saftey reasons I did this in all 5 folders and have kept a record of the path I deleted, in case I need to reset the computer at any point (they are all the same, launching Samsung AV Station Now, but they seem to point to different aspects of that programme; for instanace one starts the movies section, one the music and one the TV. I set them all to point at the iTunes.exe file on my Hard Dive).

    Exit. Reboot and press your now very useful little quick-launch button above your keyboard. Nice! Woo!

    This is very useful information so I'll excuse you putting it in two threads.

    You´re welcome :)

    Going to try it by myself soon. Good to hear that it actually works.

    I just wanted to say, thanks ever so much for this tip!

    All that was needed was to change the value of reg key no.1 (you can leave 2-5). I bound the button to the following command:

    rundll32.exe user32.dll,LockWorkStation

    This mirrors the function of the "lock this computer" button next to the power button in the Vista start menu.

    Thanks again!

    Could someone post an example of the actual key? I've installed Vista from a retail copy, so never had the Samsung specific reg keys for this to alter the path on. Easy way to do this is to right click the key folder and choose to export the key. This will create a text file which has all the info to recreate the key from scratch.

    I have the HotStartButtons subkey, but nothing in it.

    Thanks in advance.

    Did you install all the Samsung R20 software packages? I would expect one of them drops the key into the registry. It's unlikley that they would have customised the basic Vista installation.

    This is from a Q35, but the folders were in the same place, so here it is:

    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\MobilePC\HotStartButtons]

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\MobilePC\HotStartButtons\1]
    "ApplicationPath"="\"C:\\Program Files\\Samsung\\AVStation Now\\AVSNow.exe\""

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\MobilePC\HotStartButtons\2]
    "ApplicationPath"="\"C:\\Program Files\\Samsung\\AVStation Now\\AVSNow.exe\" /start:music"

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\MobilePC\HotStartButtons\3]
    "ApplicationPath"="\"C:\\Program Files\\Samsung\\AVStation Now\\AVSNow.exe\" /start :photo"

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\MobilePC\HotStartButtons\4]
    "ApplicationPath"="\"C:\\Program Files\\Samsung\\AVStation Now\\AVSNow.exe\" /start:movie"

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\MobilePC\HotStartButtons\5]
    "ApplicationPath"="\"C:\\Program Files\\Samsung\\AVStation Now\\AVSNow.exe\" /start:tv"

    I don't have the "MobilePC" key under the mentioned registry path.
    Yet there is a possibility to change the application launched with the keys:
    HOWTO: Change AVS Hotkeys.

    I would like to remind you that this app was written for X60 so it might not work for your model.
