Is there any way I can override the battery power consumption on this model?

Using Windows XP and I want to have full screen brightness when running on battery power.

    TIA
    Martin

On my own laptop this is a BIOS feature labeled Laptop Auto Dim. If I disable it, the screen stays exactly as bright under battery power as it does under AC power.

There should also be a FN key combination, such as FN+F5 for mine, that brightens the screen back to AC adapter levels from within Windows.

Page 43 of the R60 manual shows the brightness adjustment is Fn + cursor up (increase) and Fn + cursor down (decrease). There should be sunshine symbols on those two keys. These commands override any default settings when on both mains and battery. See the manual page 42 for explanation of the other Fn commands. If these commands are not working then make sure that Easy Battery Manager and Easy Display Manager are installed.

These commands should work in XP as well as Vista. However, there has been discussion in the Q45 thread about some of the Fn key commands not working in XP and Linux due to a BIOS issue. If this might be your problem, try BIOS 07YI (dated 27 Mar 08).
