I am not very tech savy, so bare with me. I just got my new R480 notebook (intel i3, 4gb ram, 500 gb drive, etc.). Anyways, the resolution on videos streaming from sites such as youtube seems very poor... kind of pixely. In fact, the laptop came with a video loaded on it. I think it is titled "Nature in HD". That is semi-pixelated as well. Even pictures on websites seem pixelated... not quite as sharp as my 8 year old Gateway that is barely alive.

I am thinking of returning this machine. It has a blu-ray player and I will test that first. But, my question is, do I need to change my settings somehow? Like I said, I am not very computer literate, so I really need some help here. But something doesn't seem right.

Thank you in advance and I appreciate the wealth of knowledge here.

I had the r480 and the videos were fine. Would suggest to exchange it and compare within the return policy. I returned the r480 because the battery didn't last long so I got the r580 thinking the battery would last longer but it doesn't either.

What GPU do you have? Also I think that youtube is rendered by the CPU and the i3 is the bottom of the pecking order of new CPUs (see notebookcheck's benchmark list).

In addition to testing the Blu-ray performance, you can download and run some of Microsoft's HD video samples.
