Successfully did a clean install of windows 8 pro in EFI mode. Everything seems to work, however I cant seem to get into the efi bios settings. (not that I need to, it just bothers me). Upon startup I see the Samsung splash screen with "system resuming" at the bottom. no F Key seems to have any effect. With the exception of the esc key that still allows me to select a boot device.

There is no Uefi menu listed in advanced start up of windows 8. Went into disk management and confirmed the drive partitions are set up for EFI.

Any guesses how to ether get into the EFI menu at start up or Force Win 8 to display the Uefi bios menu?

Notes: used Easy Settings Version "Easy_Settings_1.1.0.15" from one of the NP700 models to get the function keys working. Everything else seemed to work from the initial install of windows 8.

Just because I want to know did you have any other issues with your install? Samsung is not including this laptop in the ones they are supporting for the upgrade but I am keen to move up. For one thing it is saying that one Intel Proset/Wireless Wifi is compatible not sure what this does but hope you are not seeing any connectivity issues. Also I note that the upgrade assistant noted that Windows 8 Secure Boot would not work once upgraded and I believe that this is what replaced the BIOS menu in Windows 8. Not sure if there is a work around for that.

no big issues. worked for 3 days to get widi online (I swapped out the network card for an intel 6250 awhile back) but finally got that working. I have a feeling that although we have an EFI bios its just not the most up to date version. Unless a miracle happens and Samsung gives us an update we wont get the secure boot menu.

this is my link on getting widi working on the original i3,i5 series
Widi on series 5 chipset windows 8

Well I don't use WIDI so I should be okay there. I was reading that the BIOS should still be available even without UEFI and no secure boot. That of course doesn't help you but there are times when you need to get in there...

So far things have gone pretty well with my upgrade. I love Windows 8. So fast and smooth. Really only two issues. My wifi is always dropping despite having the most up to date drivers and my mic is not as sensitive as it used to be for Skype calls.
