I want to replace the 2x2gb in it for 2x4gb.

    1. Will it do this particular laptop a lot of good ?
    2. Is 204 PIN SODIMM laptop Ram ok ? I asssume this is the standard ?

Also general question, is there anything out there by Sasmsung that's a major improvement over this 410 thats worth the upgrade ? Besides the Series 9...

    1. Crucial shows the RAM as 204 pin DD3 SODIMM.

    2. If you can live with a 1366 x 768 display then there's a 13" Series 3 or 5 that looks quite good and there is also a 14" Series 7 (NP700Z3C) available in some markets.

    Awesome thanks John !
One more question, can I pop a 2.5" SSD straight in instead of the 750gb mechanical in it ?
Would that be a more "noticeable" upgrade ?

Unless you know you need more than 4GB RAM (and have 64 bit Windows to be able to use it) then the SSD is more likely to give a more noticeable boost to usability and responsiveness. 256GB SSDs have come down a long way in price during the last year. The QX410 does not support SATA 600 (SATA 3) so the maximum transfer rate will be 300 MB/s (still 3 x faster than a HDD) and you benefit from the near instant access times.

Excellent so I need to get a 2.5" Desktop SSD and it will fit straight in the QX ?

Any 2.5" SSD 9.7mm thick or less (Samsung ones are 7mm thick but will fix in OK). Crucial and Samsung are good reliable brands. I'm less keen on recommending OCZ because, historically, they have had issues.

Let us know how you get on. I presume that you will do a clean reinstall of Windows rather than cloning if your Windows installation is as old as the QX410. Make sure that you have a full set of the latest drivers and Samsung software available (eg on a flash drive) before you remove the HDD. Does the Samsung Recovery Solution make you a backup set of the supplied drivers and software or did this come on a supplied disc? This might include software such as the Cyberlink DVD suite that is not available to download.
