I downgraded my Q70 from Vista to XP. I downloaded all the XP drivers from Samsung but sound does not work. My XP has Service pack 3 and the sound driver file I downloaded from Samsung is:

    20080618152854343_Sound_Driver_WinXP_SP3_5.10.0.5397

On trying to install the sound driver it says, "No sound cards were detected. Installation can not continue"

There are also two devices with no drivers:
    - Network controller
    - PCI Device

Surprisingly, the network is working without a problem!!!

I think the problem is with the HDA bus driver.

Perhaps try the driver from SamsungPC which says "includes bus driver".

Perhaps someone in Samsung assumed that the relevant driver is in SP3 and left it out of the latest audio package.

Microsoft discusses the driver here but doesn't give a download link.

    Realtek ALC26x? Try these.

If you're missing the audio bus thingy, one of those unrecognized devices is probably the modem. Try reinstalling the driver once you've got the sound working. As for the network controller, have you tested both wireless and the wired ethernet port?

Woooooow! Thanks soooo Much. I am so relieved! Problem finally solved. You guys gave me a brilliant lead. HDA Bus driver! That was the answer! I put aside my war with Realtek HD Audio driver and started with HDA Bus driver. I then came to this post by ColdSoul in response to Lappie:

This solved my problem! Thanks ColdSoul!!!! To unzip the .7z file, you need 7Zip - http://www.7-zip.org/download.html
