Here is the deal. I really like the Samsung X30 laptop, but it is not offered in US, but I can order from the UK. What is the downside? I can imagine power supply differences being an issue, but maybe there are workarounds? Other issues?[?]

Also I could purchase the X30 from Dynamism.com which promises to outfit it to US standards--albeit at a pretty price. Any comments on this approach using Dynamism?

    Many thanks in advance[8D]

I would guess all you need is a new AC adaptor. As for the Dynamism route, they're going to make you pay. I suppose I just don't see the allure of getting the Samsung. Don't forget, support is going to be a real pain as well.

Can I ask what the draw to the Samsung model is? I work with M-Tech and anytime someone would go through the trouble you are likely to experience for a laptop model, well that gets our attention. Perhaps we can learn a lesson from Samsung and try to duplicate the same draw with our own products. Any idea what drew you to that product over all others? Your insight is very valuable.

Here are some of my considerations.
    Samsung; name recognition, quality, etc.
    Looking for:
Sleek styling(as close to iBook as possible--including white or light color keys)
    Magnesium case
    Widescreen format (preferably 15.4)
    Highest screen display quality
    SXGA+ resolution
    Latest technology

A friend of mine has a laptop from Europe. He just needs a small power adapter. (His is from Brookstone.)

    >>1. I want a super light weight model (less than 4.5 lbs) with a 14+ screen. The X10 delivers on that when very few others do.

Sony S Series is 4 pounds. 13.3" wide-screen. There are very few affordable computers by name brand manufacturers that will get you a 14" or 15" screen in that form factor.

    >>2. I want to be able to play games on my super portable so it needs a high end graphics setup. The X10 has an NVidia graphics card but not a high end one. EQ2 is my next big game and it requires a lot of HP. If this thing came with a R9700 I likely would already own one.

Sony S Series comes equipped with a MR 9700. This particular model is coming soon.

    >>3. I like the sleek silver look. This thing is gorgeous. I basically want a 1" (or less) sleek silver notebook for ease in carrying plus that Ohhhhh ahhhhhh factor.

Sony S at 1.1 inches isn't the end of the world is it?

    -----------------------------

    >>I would prefer a name brand, but the features are more important. The Sony S series has potential but right now I have my eye on the upcoming Benq Joybook 7000 with its larger screen as the leading contender for a potential next purchase.

    ---------------------------------

How large is the Benq's screen? Does it have something like XBRITE/Crystal View or any of those super contrast, high brightness displays?

    --------------------
    Compaq Presario 2800T
    Pentium 4-M 1.6 GHz - 15" UXGA
    512 MB RAM - 40 GB (5400 rpm)
ATI Mobility Radeon 7500 64 MB
Pretty good for 2002 isn't it?
