The other day I recieved my new Q210 and and went through all the processes of setting it up including the bit where you partition the drive (I chose to partition it into two parts C and D with D as the primary partition). I now want to change the size of the partiton (shrink D and extend C) and was wondering if I did a system restore using the provided disk this would allow me to reselect the sizes?

I have already tried to use the disk partitioning tool in Vista however this wont work since if I shrink D (so there is some unallocated space) and then right-click on the C drive, the extend partition button is 'greyed out' and I am unable to select it.

Any help on the matter would be great! Thanks.

i think i have done this on my q310, but im not on laptop atm.

I think you shrink the c drive, and then, have you tried to use the shrink utility on the d drive to make it bigger.

edit: sorry, my mistake i have just remembered that i shrunk the c drive to add the d drive, but using the shrink might work but i havn't really played around with it.

ps. isnt the recovery partition on a invisible partitionnr or something, according to the samsung recovery software its on the z drive?

The recovery partition is usually hidden from most things.. Just look out for a 10GB partition and you'll know it's the recovery partition.

Reformatting and setting up your parititons via the boot utility thing doesn't result in you loosing the recovery partition.

    Hi.

Vista would only let me shrink my c: drive by a small amount and it would not let me expand the d drive to use the extra space.

So i made a system backup to my external drive and booted to the Samsung Vista DVD to the part that askes you which drive you want to install on.

But it also has the option to delete and make partitions, so i deleted c and d partition and the made 1/3 c and 2/3 d and then formatted the both.

Then i re-booted and pressed F4 to system recovery and selected the backup i made on my external drive, and restored my system.

    Regards

    John.

    John,

After deleting/formatting C and D partitions by booting to Samsung Vista DVD, did you *first* install Vista before rebooting and pressing F4? Or did you just use Vista to delete/format partitions and use system recovery to restore your system?
