Some of us over in the Lenovo section are trying to fix up our Thinkpads with a better screen panel. I had a chance to look at the Series 7 np700z3b side by side, and it has a fantastic screen! The viewing angles are a little limited (no worse than the Thinkpad T series!), but the rest of the characteristics are phenomenal: color saturation, brightness, complete absence of griddy pixelation of any kind, etc.

If you would be so kind, please post your series 7 model, and the screen part num# along next to it. You can get the screen part num# by running a program like hwinfo, hwinfo32, etc. We can get these specific screens off resellers and install them on our Thinkpads.

Given that the Z3C users report that their screen isn't exceptionally good, your comments show how bad some of the other panels are.

It's really difficult to sometimes gauge what people mean when they say a bad screen, or who these people are. Maybe they're photo professionals, and they expected their $899 laptop to photorealistically reproduce photos on. Who knows? All I can say is, having seen the 14" series 7 on multiple occasions, that aside from viewing angles, the other characteristics make it the best 14" non-IPS panel I've seen. Colors are vivid and not washed out. Brightness and and contrast are crisp. There are no pixelation problems (an issue which plagues ALL OTHER pc laptops, pretty much).

Mind finding out part num# panel for your z3c? Also, the z3c panels don't have matte coating, right?

If you have read through the NP700Z3C thread then you will have come across the link to this review. It says the display is SEC0006 (it calls it Seiko-Epson but I'm 99% sure that the SEC stands for Samsung Electronics). That review also says it is glossy but all the Series 7 notebooks have matte displays, but the measurement data should be valid.

Thanks JR, that review is very helpful. Along with naming its manufacturer Seiko-Epson, they label it 'extremely glossy'?

    Also, they write this:

Any reason why they wrote '900X4B'? Was there any Z3 model with 361 cd/m2 brightness?

The SEC0006 is a monitor id, not the panel number. What we need is a panel number, only gotten if you run hwinfo or a similar program.

Another program is Moninfo but it gives no more identification for my X4C's panel other than SEC0006. Perhaps Samsung don't bother coding in additional part information when putting their own panels into their notebooks.

Thanks John, your help here has been invaluable. Is it possible to buy the panel, maybe even the whole screen assembly if necessary, from Samsung, or online somewhere?

I scoured the web for sec0006 but doesn't seem like anything hits. Is there a part number for this panel? Again, thanks for all your help so far.

Samsungparts.com sell a lot of Samsung parts. Here is the display for the NP700Z3C display. The description includes "back" so it would be prudent to clarify what is actually supplied.
