    Hello everyone.

I need to get my N140 repaired under warranty. My touchpad keys are not responsive anymore and there are some other issues that need fixing. However, I no longer have my original sales receipt. Would anyone here have one they could scan in for me? I can then change names etc. via Photoshop and it should do the trick.

On this same note, has anyone had their Samsung netbook repaired under the International Warranty service? My laptop originally came from the UK, but I now live in Australia.

    Many thanks

    That's careless.

How do we know that you are the real owner of the computer

Hi John. I'm not sure what you mean by real owner. I paid for it, it's in my possession. Does that not make me the real owner? I'm not the original owner however, but after reading Samsungs Warranty section, I saw nothing that said it's not transferrable.

The netbook has a 1 year international warranty for which there is 2 months left to go. The touchpad button has stopped working. What do you suggest I do? I thought posting here might help, but now am not sure what step I should take next.

Ronnie, I paid cash. I've contacted the person I originally purchased it from, and the best they can do is write out a new handwritten sales receipt. I sincerely doubt Samsung will accept that as an original sales receipt.

The oldest drivers and software for the N140 on the Samsung download site are dated 12 Aug 2009, and these indicate when the N140 started production (which is at least a month before the product gets to any retail outlets), you need to find someone in Samsung support who accepts that your N140 cannot be more than one year old and is therefore implicitly under warranty.

That sounds about right. However a warranty begins on the date of purchase, not on the date of manufacture. There's a sticker on the bottom of my N140 that says Aug 2009. But in the BIOS it clearly states the purchase date is 2009/11.

As you can see here in the bios, there's an entry that states date of purchase. So I imagine that date is set the first time the netbook is run. It's not an entry that can be modified, and even updating the bios doesn't change it.

Pressing F4 and going into the Samsung Recovery Solution III bootup, also shows the first entry as being 11/30/2009 which is the purchase date. Thus by all accounts my warranty should expire on 11/30/2010.

Yes, the first N140s may have reached retail outlets in mid Sept 2009. For these the warranty will be just finishing. If your hardware shows that yours is a couple of months newer then I would hope that Samsung would respect that data.

Did you register your laptop when you bought it?

For sure John. I called Samsung today, but ended up reaching someone who took my name and number and said they'd call back... still waiting lol. Will have to call them again tomorrow.

Kanehi, I didn't register the laptop with Samsung. And when I think about, I've never registered a product with anyone, be it my phone, printer, computer etc. This shouldn't void my warranty though I don't think. But I get the sense if I had registered it, obtaining service would be easier since I'm in the system?

Registering could've save you headaches. When I had my laptop serviced they also wanted a snapshot receipt (jpg) and upload it to their system for proof. Also when you register it will tell you when the laptop was manufactured so at least you have a reference date.

Things to know for next time Kanehi. Right now day 3 is coming to a close, 7 phone calls, 2 email requests... and Samsung still havn't called me back. I think I'll start a blog and record everything from now on and we'll see how many days and phone calls we can make until someone bothers to help me. I still havn't been able to actually speak with anyone to tell them my problem yet.

I recommend that you contact your bank and get a receipt via a bank statement. You have to have documented the purchase somewhere otherwise around and around you go! :spinny:

Sammy as I mentioned before I paid cash for my netbook. Gives you are lot more bargaining power when trying to get the price down. I do have a withdrawal on my bank statement from an ATM for just over the amount I paid for my netbook, but I doubt that can be used as proof of purchase.

Some good news though. I finally after 4 and a bit days of trying to get through to someone at Samsung tech support, was able to speak with someone :). I explained the problems I had, was asked for the model and serial number of the netbook as well as my date of purchase. I was then told DHL would come first thing next week to pickup my netbook and was given a ref #. After all that, it went quite smoothly. So hopefully in a week or two, I'll have it back with a working touchpad and I can go on my merry way using my Netbook again :).

    Excellent!! :D

Yeah...anything paid in cash for something that was more than a loaf of bread type of purchase gets documented somewhere if I have to return it. After getting burned from a department store when I was a kid without a receipt...well...I learned my lesson real fast! The hassle and explanation just doesn't go very far. But well done on getting thru all the paper shuffle policies! Hope you get it back in working order and looking prestine! :)

5 weeks later... I got my netbook back finally from Samsung. Wow that was a long time to get a few simple things fixed. But the main thing is it's all fixed now. I was never at any point asked to produce a copy of the original sales receipt. But it's not hard to see via the first startup date that the netbook was still under the 1 year international warranty.

Anyway, a slow and very drawn out experience, but the old Sammy lives again :)

Perhaps they had to get some parts from elsewhere in the world (and then sent them by boat!).

Anyway, glad to hear that it eventually got fixed.

Haha, probably. I had the touchpad key replaced, but since the touchpad is integrated into the top cover, the whole piece was replaced. Was also missing a plastic hinge cover from the lcd. It's a small plastic bit, but took weeks for Samsung to get one in. It wasn't a country specific item like a keyboard, as all N140s would use this exact same bit.
