    Hi,
I'm considering buying a Samsung ATIV Book 6 15.6-Inch Full HD Touchscreen Laptop (specs below). Is it a good idea to purchase this laptop, and upgrade to SSD (Cost of SSD would be $160 250gb SSD + $100 mandatory installation cost - it is not user upgradable). So I'm looking at 1200 for the laptop + $260. 1460

I wanted an ultrabook with i7, HD touch screen, and SSD. The problem with the ATIV book is no SSD. I will be using this laptop during my MBA but I sometimes play games, watch live sports/movies, and as a business person run lots of excel sheets. So I need a powerful machine, with a nice screen. I tried out the Accer S7 and I really like using the touchscreen so for me its a must have.

    Are there any better options?

    Screen Size 15.6 inches
    Screen Resolution 1920_x_1080
    Max Screen Resolution 1920 x 1080 pixels
Processor 2.4 GHz Intel Core i7
    RAM 8 GB DDR3
    Hard Drive 1 TB
Graphics Coprocessor AMD Radeon HD 8770M Graphics
Graphics Card Ram Size 1000 MB
    Wireless Type 802.11bgn

    1. The Ativ Book 6 has many similarities with the Ativ Book 8 (formerly the Series 7 Chronos) which, IIRC, has a better quality display and a higher capacity battery.

    2. The Intel Haswell platform has just been officially launched although it is currently unknown when Samsung notebooks using the new chips will be available to buy but the current range may be discounted when the new models are imminent.

    3. Officially, the HDDs are not user-upgradable. In reality, people have done the upgrades. The basic rule is do no damage and restore the hardware to the supplied configuration before requesting warranty service.

    Thanks John.

Maybe I will just wait for the Haswell notebooks.
