Hi, I saw this differrence between the specs in

    Specs - Series 9 Notebooks NP900X3C | Samsung Laptops
    and
    Specs - Series 9 Notebooks NP900X3D | Samsung Laptops

Both have the Core™ i5-3317U Processor. But the 3C page doesn't mention TurboBoost. And that model is a tad heavier. I verified this with Samsung chat support. Just FYI, its very strange as in all the amazon, Cnet etc ads for the 3C it always says Turbo boost. Are they all wrong? or is it just a Samsung typo and the chat rep didn't know what's what?

also if its true, is it something that can be hacked. Why would Samsung create an identically priced and featured machine with this feature turned off? the only hint is that 3C is made from Aluminium and 3D is from Magnesium. Heat retention?

I'm just considering whether to buy the 3D, but its much more difficult to find. Thanks for any help

The TurboBoost is a feature of the 3317 CPU. I suspect that someone left it off the description without realising the significance.

If the CPU doesn't have TurboBoost then it would be in the i3 series, similar to this.

The X3D is slightly lighter than the X3D - magnesium alloy is less dense than aluminium alloy. Personally I prefer the black finish to the shiny metal.

OK thanks, its strange that their chat support insists the specs are accurate. I saw somewhere that some manufacturers can turn off the turbo boost on some Intel i series cpus, Intel allows this.

Samsung support assume their system is always right, even when we know it is wrong. No one here has reported any crippled Series 9s although Samsung have produced some budget versions with the older CPUs (must have got some clear-out prices from Intel).

Great its a load off. By the by, what's better, alumunium or magensium? for heat issues? also I now saw from the forum posts here that the 900X3C-A05US is nearly a year old. Is the NP900X3D much newer? if so I don't understand what are its improvements, the magnesium and 0.05lbs? or have there been any major flaw fixes that plagued the 3C which I'm not aware of....it seems strange that a whole year has passed and they don't even have an 8GB model. Is that right around the corner then?
    much obliged

X3C and X3D are the same inside. Some users like the shiny metal and some prefer the black paint.

We expect / hope that 8GB will arrive with the Haswell version (coming in a few months): A roadmap was found a few months ago which showed an 8GB DDP module becoming available mid-year.

Hi, and what is the difference between the NP900X3C-A01US model and the 900X3C-A05US - just the Windows 8 instead of 7?

    many thanks

According to the info on the Samsung website you are correct (A05US being Win 8).

That page also says 400 nit brightness, which is super bright compared with most notebook displays (some are only 200 nit).
