    NP900X3C-A02US Brightness Function Keys Not Working - W10

    Hello,

    I recently purchased a NP900X3C-A02US on Ebay, which came with Windows 10 installed. I have been able to download Samsung's SW Update tool and get all the drivers installed, including the Samsung Settings app - which enabled the volume and keyboard back-light functionality.

    Unfortunately I am still not able to control the display brightness from my keyboard (F1 & F2 functions). I can change the brightness from settings, so I'm confident it's not a driver issue. I can also confirm the keys work using a keyboard testing app.

    How can I get these brightness keys to work? Does anyone with the same laptop model have them working on W10?

    This may be related to the graphics driver: Windows 10 will try to install the newest driver whereas Samsung used a customised driver. Have you tried using the graphics driver offered by Samsung Update? Another possibility is a registry edit for the Windows 10 driver which you will find in the Series 8 discussion (start at the end and work backwards) but I don't know if this works for the Series 9 notebooks.

    Hi John,

    Thanks for your reply. I am using the most recent Samsung driver, but this is a year older than the most recent Intel driver. I am not able to install the Intel driver as windows states my device is "not provisioned" for the update (I'm guessing Samsung has prevented other drivers from installing)

    Try the version of Settings provided for Windows 8.1 (2.0.0.72) as different versions of Settings have different feature sets - Samsung omitted to ensure backwards compatibility when changing the supported features.

    Hi John, just wanted to say thank you - downloading the Settings app for windows 8.1 seems to have worked (version 2.0.0.72). It took a few reboots to get set up but all my function keys are up and running now. Cheers!

    Actually I had tried installing every version of Settings I could find on my NP900X3C which had lost its function keys, but to no avail. But then I saw a little note at the end of an installation saying to make sure .NET was installed. And at that point I realised that the old versions of Settings probably needed an old version of .NET which might have been removed by the latest Windows 10 Creator Update. So I downloaded and installed .NET 3.5 from the Microsoft .NET site and, hey presto, my function keys were back and working, every one, bless their little cotton socks. The old version of .Net runs happily alongside the latest version 4.7.1.
