    Hi

After a serious system failure I have completely erased my HD (incl recovery partition). I am now in the process of recreating system, software, etc. I can not use Samsung Recovery Solution, which I cannot install due to the very fact that the partition was erased (no idea why Samsung does not provide all necessary tools on an external medium  - but this is a separate topic).

At some point I did some sort of backup with Samsung Recovery Solution (I think w/ version 4) on an external HD, which created 9 files: user1.wcl, user1.woo, user1.w01, user1.w02, ..., user1.w07. The folder is 29.3 GB large, all individual files are slightly larger than 4GB, apart from user1.woo (1 kb) and user1.w07 (1.4 GB). Now my question is: What type of recovery can these files be used for? I do not only want to restore the system software or recreate my files I had backed up with a data backup (I already found out how to do both these things), but ideally restore my computer into a state with all software, settings, files from the point at which the backup was made. I also would like to recreate my HD partition I had before the crash, which I could not implement, given that this feature can also only be done via Recovery Solution. If these files (user1.wcl, user1.woo, user1.w01, user1.w02, ..., user1.w07) could help to do a more complete recovery (i.e. not only basic system software and file restore), HOW would I need to go about to use them?

Depending on your answers I would follow up with further questions, but first I have to know what type of recovery these files (user1.wcl, user1.woo, user1.w01, user1.w02, ..., user1.w07) can be used for and how. If you need to know further details please let me know. I will return to this thread tomorrow morning GMT.

    Thanks!

Difficult to say since, as explained, I cannot instal S R S due to the missing recovery partition. Have no other similar Samsung machine around me to check.

Justify from the file extension, I believe those files are compressed by Samsung Recovery. So your chance is somehow install the recovery and try to read it from that. Because these particularly extension files can be read by only the program that created them, that means you cannot view it by other application.

Also what specific error you got when you tried to install the Recovery? If you could trick the software that you have a partition which it gonna be a recovery partition, I think it will allow to be installed.

OK, thanks. When trying to install the recovery program the error message is "There is no Samsung Recovery area on your hard disk drive. Setup will be cancelled". According to Samsung, who I talked to in the meantime, I would have to send in the machine so that they recreate the partition, after which I would be able to install Samsung Recovery and then read those backup files. It would be great to know how I could trick the software with the partition (as you suggest), but I have no clue how to do that. Recreating a recovery partition costs (in the UK) an equivalent of US$95, which is kind of steep, even though in the US its only US$40.
