Hey guys I have been following several of the review threads and discussion threads here on the forum and feel I have a bit of a unique problem that I am hoping the expert minds here on the forums can help me out with.

I recently upgraded three different things on the laptop:
    1) Installed samsung 256gb 830 series SSD
    2) Changed stock 5400 rpm 1tb HDD to WD Scorpio Black 750 gig 7200 rpm drive
    3) Upgraded the ram to 12 gigs.

After installing the SSD, Windows fails to reboot after a clean install. It shuts down normally but actually never restarts..just hangs. In addition when doing a full shut down, it actually shuts down but when powering it up againit just hangs. I have to shut it down again, then restart again, and then it boots.

I am fully perplexed and hoping you guys have some ideas. Again fresh install of Windows 7 64-bit straight off the recovery disk, updated bios on SSD and mobo, and all Samsung drivers installed for everything. Thx all for your help in advance.

I had an issue with the series 7 15 where it wouldn't boot without the original CD drive in the system, then once I installed the OS with the cd drive in, I pulled it out and put the second drive in. You already had windows installed, then put second drive in and it has issues?

jlrosine that is a brilliant idea I will try putting the cd drive back in first before replacing the 5400rpm drive. Thank you! Will let you know how it goes.

Okay tried this and no dice. Same issue where the computer will not reboot on its own, even during windows installation. Needs to be manually shut off then turned back on.

Man that sure seems weird. What sort of usb/monitor/cables do you have hooked up to it? Just curious, I had an issue like that once that was caused by this little usb KVM I had (not with a samsung laptop).

I assume you are testing it with just the laptop hooked up to power and no other changes? Have you tried putting the stock ram back in to see if the behavior exists? I would just test it with the ssd 830 as the only change from stock, and see what happens.

Right now the whole thing is apart, only thing changed from stock is the hdd now. Stock ram had no effect. Keeping the rear cover off since we've now broken the stupid tab by the vga port from switching components so often. So now SSD 830 is the only change, and still won't reboot on its own. Just shuts down and hangs.

NOTE: DISABLING UEFI, REFORMATTING THE DRIVE TO GPT AND INSTALLING A FRESH COPY OF WINDOWS 7 FIXED THE PROBLEM!
