    Hello everyone,

I've installed Win8.1 update on Samsung Series 7 (NP700Z7C). There was some error and it rolled back to Win8.0. I tried again installing it again and then upon restart I got blue screen with error - some file was missing/corrupted and windows couldn't start. To some unknown reasons in boot options of BIOS I disabled my HDDs. Now when I press Power ON button, I'm getting Samsung logo for ca. 1 sec and laptop automatically restarts. It's an endless loop.

I cannot enter BIOS anymore. Laptop doesn't react to any button upon boot (F2, F4, F8, del, esc, ins, any other Fx also with Fn). I have disconnected my SSD (in place of ODD) and regular HDD, RAM, battery. Still same.

Do you have any idea what can still be done/tested before I'll send it to the service?

    Regards,
    f.

There have been several reports of similar problems such as in this thread although this is the first report I remember seeing of this happening with the Series 7.

The diagnosis isn't good - it probably has to go back to a Samsung repair centre.

BTW, did your Z7C originally come with Windows 7 or Windows 8?

    Thanks John. It's as I though :/
    I've checked that thread before.
    It came with Win8.
Two serious failures within one year, what's wrong with you Samsung?!

This is happening to me. of course the day before I have exams and i have completed papers on my laptop that I need to turn in tomorrow. samsung for suggesting I upgrade.
    my model is NP700Z5C-S02UB

I can access the BIOS menu on mine but thats it. I've tried loading a recovery CD to refresh the system but it won't boot from the CD. It reads the CD then just doesn't load from it. I really need to make this POS work within the next 24 hours to get my files.

joconnell02, unfortunately laptop has to be sent to service centre. 24hrs already passed but for the future: buy sata-usb adapter, take out your HDD from laptop and connect it to another computer to get the files you need.

Update after contacting Samsung: they said that motherboard has to be replaced. Although Samsung standard warranty in my country is 2 years but as the laptop was ordered through amazon.co.uk laptop is covered with UK standard warranty which lasts only 1 year (same as international warranty). Cost of parts: ca. 700 euro. Repair is meaningless.

Is it not that only BIOS is damaged? Is there no way to reset all BIOS settings by pulling out some battery for a while? Or to reinstall BIOS not from BIOS level?

    Regards,
    f.

There is probably a CMOS backup coin cell which is easy to disconnect from the main board (my X4C has one that's connected by a short cable that plugs into a socket).

I would note that if you purchased the computer in the UK then you should be covered by the Supply of Goods ad Services Act (1982). This states that if a fault is the result of fair wear and tear or abuse, you have the right to have the goods repaired or replaced for free. You may need to politely persist with Amazon (the responsibility for repair / replacement lies with the retailer) who will then probably request Samsung to fix the problem (caused by Samsung's crash-prone BIOS) without charge.

John, many thanks for your tip! I've wrote to Amazon and they have transferred me the money needed for the repair (they needed repair cost estimation from Service Centre). So I got back 60% worth of the laptop but of course it makes no sense to repair it anymore (for same price I can get something similar but with at least guarantee).

Before I throw out the motherboard, I want to first play with it. I'll try to make bus pirate bios recovery. So question, does anyone have a bios image that I could use? Or experience / tips using bios recovery it with Samsung laptops?

    Regards,
    f.
