I bought this laptop a week or so ago, and for some reason I cannot get the headphone jack to work at all. I'm not sure if there's a driver I need to install or what, I just need some help.

The usual place to start for such problems is to make sure you have got the latest BIOS (run the Samsung BIOS updater program) and the latest audio driver (run the Samsung Easy Software Manager). Also make sure you have pushed the plug in all the way.

Have you tried left clicking on the speaker icon on the task bar and selecting playback devices to see what show up?

Have you tried external speakers in the jack, because I have 5.1 surround sound speakers in that jack and it shows up the same as your pic.

    In addition
I know this matters little to you, but I have a set of usb headphones and they also shows in the same dialogue box as well as what you have in your pic.

Plugged my external speakers in with an auxiliary cord and the sound is still coming out of the laptop speakers.

It really sounds to me like that connector is broken: It's one thing that no sound comes out to your speakers and headset, but it should turn off the internal speakers as soon as you plug in the external ones.

I would contact Samsung, you may need a repair - I know, not what you want to hear :what:

This is what I see on my Series 9 if I first go into the mixer and then select the speakers.

On the left is without the external speakers plugged in and on the right is with the speakers plugged in. You will see that a 3.5mm socket gets added. There is also a pop-up message in the notification area whenever the external speakers are connected / disconnected. I have both check boxes on the Advanced page of the speakers properties selected.

Might you have installed some other software which is fighting with Realtek for the audio control?

I talk to Samsung person this morning and he told me to basic restore my computer and now it's just completely screwed over.

Also, the only things I've installed since I bought it have been WoW, League of Legends, and Skype.

I agree with Dannemand, it seems to be a hardware issue. Seeing your computer "is completely screwed over" I'd use the Windows disc that should have come with your laptop and do a clean install to see if it works without any Samsung software on the laptop, it's very easy, the only thing you should do before doing a clean install is backup a copy of the wifi drivers to a usb stick, once installed go to Samsung and download a copy of easy software manager and choose the Samsung software you want.

I'd love to have the ability to do that but I can't because I can't even access to Start menu. I have to open programs with the run shell.

Can't you just insert the CD and it will auto boot straight into the Windows installation dialogue box?

It's Windows 7 the way I like it to look - Visual Settings set to Best Performance + smooth screen fonts. Some of the newer visual effects degrade usability IMO.

Now, back on-topic: If the computer doesn't detect that external speakers aren't plugged in then there's a problem. If the software is installed OK then we have to blame the hardware.

Off-topic, I agree, that's why I have Windows 7 Basic, Windows Aero takes up too much graphical resource for my liking.

I know you have more problems now, but on the original topic, in the past muting the internal speakers when external plugged in would be done in the jack itself.

Now we have a software to do it that I didn't see mentioned here, its an option in the Realtek audio manager to mute or not mute when headphones plugged in.

I have a similar laptop, see the speaker icon on the middle right when headphones are plugged in and not. It should be ideally like shown below

    Without Headphones plugged in:

@ColorDeaf: Make sure you check that Realtek setting btb mentioned (if you haven't already). I wasn't aware of it.
