As the title states, I have a Samsnung NP700Z5C-S01UB. I recently had an issue getting into the BIOS/Boot Order screens on start-up but followed the directions in this thread:

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/thr...-back-bios-updates.696197/page-24#post9825113

As stated in this thread, the S01UB was purchased from Best Buy and has not ever had a BIOS update as there is only one version of the BIOS (P00AAS).

An issue I had before solving the BIOS access issue is that I am unable to perform any kind of restart, hibernate, or system resume action. If I try to restart, the computer just hangs on the screen that says "Restarting." If I then turn the machine off, it's a crap shoot trying to get it to come back on. I press the power button and the power indicator light will light up, but the screen is still black. I get the same result if it goes into hibernation; I can't get it to resume without turning it off/on again. Below is a list of things I have tried to attempt to resolve the issue.

    1. The BIOS link above (I read in that or another forum topic that something like this could be BIOS related).
    2. Clean install of Windows 7 and then upgraded to Windows 8.1.
    3. Clean install of Windows 8.1.
    4. Clean install of Windows Technical Preview (just to see what happened).
    5. Disabling of "Fast Startup" in Power Options

At this point, I'm not real sure how to proceed. I've searched for others with the same/similar issue with little result. A little help would be much appreciated.

I think we are all short of suggestions for fixing this. Do you have UEFI enabled / disabled? UEFI on a Samsung notebook of that age is a recipe for problems.

Otherwise, I wonder whether there is a problem with reading the boot files on the HDD. This might be revealed by looking at the HDD's SMART data preferably using the drive manufacturer's diagnostic utility which may also provide the facility to create a bootable drive fitness scanner.
