I am having significant wireless problems. My netbook connects to the network sometimes and sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes when connected it just disconnects and the wifi card "disappears."

I have upgraded all drivers for the Atheros AR5007EG and it didn't help.

I downgraded the drivers to the 5 series and it isn't much better, although ipconfig now shows the card as the Atheros AR5006X.

Recommendations anyone? New drivers? Live with it (not an option)? Send it back (don't want to if I can help it)? Install a new WiFi card?

    Please help.

Sorry to hear that. If the WiFi card literally disappears from the Device Manager, and you've tried all the drivers on a clean install of Windows, I would give Samsung a call. My unqualified guess is that it could be either BIOS or hardware related. Hope it works out for you.

Is this with the Samsung installation of XP? It should include all the patches that have come out in the past couple of years to fix issues of wireless connectivity.

Some people have had problems with the Atheros card working with certain brands of routers to the extent that they have changed it to the Intel 5100 card. But first check if your router's firmware is up-to-date.

I have a Linksys WRT54G Version 2 with the latest firmware. Version 8.2 is the newest router so mine is a few years old, but I have absolutely no problems with my desktop or laptop connecting.

I am using the Samsung loaded version of XP with all applicable updates except I am now using the series 5 version of the Atheros drivers. They work a bit better then the series 7.

I saw a good deal on Intel 4695 wireless cards. How do they compare to the 5100 and does a change of cards fix the problem?

Intel usually do a good job with the compatibility of their wireless cards. You will need to check the Intel website to find out what the 5100 card offers that the 4965 does not.

But first try putting the router to a different channel. I had a similar problem at home a year or two ago which seemed to be caused by a neighbour's router using the same channel. At one end of my house that signal was strong enough to confuse the computer.

I just changed the channel and will try it for the next few hours. Thanks

Its not the router. Must be the Atheros card or the drivers. Looks like I'll get an Intel card. I know they are reliable.
