I purchased my White NC10 in late 2008 and in the last fortnight, the hard drive has been making a noise whenever I use my machine (sort of a whirring/clicking noise).

My hubby thinks that the hard drive doesn't sound too healthy and suggests I replace it before it goes pop (with all my stuff on it).

I've seen on ebuyer a Western Digital hard drive (160GB is plenty for me)
    Western Digital WD1600BEVT 160GB 2.5" Hard Drive SATAII 5400rpm 8MB Cache - OEM Scorpio Blue for £30.64
    and the
    Western Digital WD1600BEKT 160GB 2.5" Hard Drive SATAII 7200rpm 16MB Cache - OEM Scorpio Black for £40.65

Will there be a marked difference if I buy the 7200rpm model and will it affect/reduce the battery life of my NC10?
Or should I save myself £10 and make my NC10 better again with the cheaper option.

Unless anyone out there has a better option for replacing the hard drive at a comparable price.

The Tom's Hardware charts show that there is not much difference in power consumption between the 320GB ...BEVT and ....BEKT (the 160GB will be similar).

The 7200rpm HDD should make HDD access slightly faster but whether you would notice the difference on a netbook with its relatively slow CPU remains to be seen.
