Does anyone know what the max RAM you can put in a 700Z5a is? I tried asking samsung, but all I get is '8Gb'. I find it hard to believe that that is the max, or it would be really bad future proofing. Does anyone know any different, before I buy a laptop that I can't upgrade?

Unfortunately there is only one expansion slot as 4Gb is soldered onto the motherboard. I believe I read on an earlier post that someone had successfully put a 8 Gb stick into the expansion slot for a total of 12 Gb. The question is whether the BIOS will support anything beyond 8 Gb.

No one has put in 1 piece 8GB AFAIK. 12GB is only theoretical.

I think there is a good chance of an 8GB module working. The Intel chipset supports 8GB modules and Samsung has no track record of locking BIOSes to limit the addressable RAM. However, their official line may be that 8GB modules won't work because they haven't done any specific testing (there was a similar situation when 2GB modules became available, worked fine but were not officially supported).

OK, thanks for the replies - that's all somewhat reassuring! I was just a bit surprised by the blanket '8Gb' answer, rather than a 'we've only tested 8Gb (total) but more should work' which is what I expected.

Yes 8gb will be accepted and recognized. I have 12gb in my 700Z 04.

Thanks for posting that golfisheagle. Just finished updating my NP700Z5A to 12GB - so far so good...
