I did a fresh reload of Windows 7, installed all of the drivers, installed Windows updates, install Easy Settings and Easy Software Manager.

The keyboard backlight turns on fine and the brightness can be adjusted but it does not turn off after setting the timeout in Easy Settings.

Is this normal? Do we lose this functionality if we do a fresh install of Windows 7?

Samsung support has been useless so I'm hoping someone here has seen this issue before.

I'm baffled by this, so it must be challenge for Samsung support. :D If confronted by this problem I would: (a)Reinstall Easy Settings / try a newer / older version; (b) fiddle with the backlight settings and do several reboots; (c) stop worrying and wait for it to fix itself (does the backlight go off eventually?).

I presume that you are using the backlight timeout control within Easy Settings.

I did everything you mentioned and even reinstalled Windows again. I am using the timeout option in Easy Settings and the backlight just stays on all the time.

I also made sure that dmhkcore.exe is running.

The backlight timeout did work on the stock install. All I've done since then is replace the HDD with an SSD and reinstalled Windows.

What if you cloned the HD image on the SSD and ran stock windows? If that also works, then it's a driver issue, in which case you should find the same driver version as the stock windows.

That will be my last resort. I am comparing some things from the stock install to my fresh install first.

My main question is others have reloaded Samsung notebooks without any issues with the backlight timeout right?

I don't recall anyone else having this problem.

So I used recovery manager and did a backup of system apps and drivers. I then used this to reinstall my drivers instead of manually downloading them from the Samsung website and now it works fine.

Doesn't make much sense to me but I am happy.
